excellent, affordable Father’s Day gift -> note there is honor involved in playing golf, which some grossly abuse - https://www.msnbc.com/the-last-word/...m_npd_ms_tw_lw P.S. Most early adopters with money burning holes in their pockets for big ticket items – I’m hoping they’re knowledgeable enough in budgeting - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNygqVlvMck#t=1s - won’t have the *opportunity* to view an 8K vs. 4K TV setup at Samsung or Sony or Sharp or Panasonic’s headquarters and will have to rely upon visiting their lowly, unbiased venue like a local high end store and let their own eyes (1/60 equating to ‘20/20 vision’ in the equation I pictured on the last page if people don’t understand arcseconds) determine if the 8K tv bang is worth the buck with moving pictures where the camera and objects of interest are in motion as seen at their current home viewing distance. Even then, if there is a subtle increase in picture quality noticed with the 8K tv, they will not know for sure if it’s due to advertised ‘smart upscaling technology’ or some other improvements in the 8K tv like better backlighting, etc. which wasn’t implemented in the 4K tv….and should have been in order to make the comparison more valid. |

So, carry on folks, as while P.S. heads to Amazon (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/li...eaming-1209975 ), it’s off to Morro Bay for my wife and me for the event mentioned in post #9416 on the last page.
Let’s see if the thread can maintain this robust viewership pace (2 – 3,000 views/day) while we’re absent. Y’all seem to have a good start with the rez conversation. ![]() Later |

R.I.P. OLED?
Fear and Trembling: LG Display faces the axe for OLED burn-in and market squeeze After seven years of ignoring the warning signs, LG Display's OLED TV panel business is facing a reckoning by LG Group's leadership and the market as rival Samsung jumps to MicroLED and QD-OLED panels. https://www.zdnet.com/article/fear-a...arket-squeeze/ |

Can't be. It's probably a news glitch of some kind.
True though that MicroLED, if everything according to plan, will replace OLED. And also true that QLED has an HDR advantage...Brightness...more nits. But, it has to be a news glitch; OLED is still the king of all LED technologies...the best of the best. Business wise I thought they were doing the best also. Could it be that the majority of TV watchers do during daytime and with the lights on in the evening? That could be that too; then you want more brightness, more nits, better for HDR watchers with the lights on and during daylight. Most likely a news glitch. ...Like 3D. ![]() P.S. Paul, first they took 3D from us here in North America (TV's best feature), now they want to take OLED from us? Say it ain't so. It's a "fear" tactic, from Samsung? ...Samsung is not very happy nowadays; they abandonned OLED early in the game, they didn't get far with their curved TVs, they stopped making 4K Blu-ray players, they removed their folding phones out of the market, ...things are not all pinky for the South Korean manufacturer...and it has been for quite some time...android's batteries exploding, laptop cameras spying on students, ... Burn-in issues with OLED don't exist if you are careful with the settings, have a PhD in video calibration, and only watch suitable programs...like the best movies. ...And only during nighttime with the lights off. Most people who are well knowledgeable they all know that. And besides, LG is not the only OLED game in town...we have Sony, Panasonic (Canada & UK), and many others ... • https://www.oled-info.com/oled-tv • https://www.oled-info.com/oled-devices/latest-OLED-tvs Last edited by LordoftheRings; 05-15-2019 at 05:33 PM. |

Sony gets it OLEDs from LG. If LG can't make money on OLEDs I doubt anyone can.

You are aware that Samsung, after promising QD-OLED panels in 2020, has now pushed back the delivery date by years to 2024.
The same company, I might add, that sent Samsung Fold units to reviewers, and when informed that the review units were failing within hours, determined to delay the launch, i.e., never. The above setting aside the fact they just exited the Blu-Ray player market in the USA and elsewhere, because who needs found money when your entire company is in the red. But, but all means, since LG is exiting the OLED market, please wait until Samsung launches their MicroLED or QD-OLED product lineup. Of course, of course... of course. |

I have read many of this author's articles about LG and OLED TVs, all very seriously exagerated. I've posted my respecful replies and they have never gone live. I've also written to the publisher several times and have never had a reply.
LG and OLED is alive and well and LG has very agressive plans on the continued growth that are not changing. This year we'll see 88" 8K LG OLED TVs and for 2020 LG's new OLED factory will be in full swing. Last edited by Robert Zohn; 05-15-2019 at 09:41 PM. |

Your info and mine are identical. It doesn’t make sense for LG to stop OLED as they essentially supply the entire world’s worth of OLED ready to use panels and OLED screen components (in the case of the upcoming Panasonic GZ2000 series)

Did you guys read the full article Paul just posted earlier this morning?
Please do, here it is again: ▪ https://www.zdnet.com/article/fear-a...arket-squeeze/ After reading it in full you'll have a much better picture of the real situation. OLED is with us for few more years; I wouldn't sweat it. Technologies and innovations are always advancing; nothing last forever if you cannot develop in this increasingly competitive market. Just read the complete article and see what you make of it...OLED TV owners and dealers. Me I'm happy today. I'm not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow can take care of itself without me worrying today. And yes, the article is brand new from this morning...freshly released. Last edited by LordoftheRings; 05-16-2019 at 12:21 AM. |
