Those are bumped up versions of the single and dual layer blu-ray discs. BD25 and BD50 respectively. It was in response to the 51 GB HD DVD, which never came to be. I'd like to see these higher capacities come out as you can never have too much space.

Well, maybe to you but to me, it's something I would like since I am deaf.
Anyway, the problem with Blu-ray players is that they lack a CC decoder. This is a problem because many DVDs are closed captioned and lack SDH (subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing). I am unable to get CC via HDMI input on my HDTV from PS3, so that's why there need to be a firmware update to make the PS3 capable of displaying CC on its own rather than the TV. It's a big problem with a lot of HDTVs with HDMI inputs. |

It's all in how you market it. A blu-ray player with DVR may sound odd. But a DVR with blu-ray sounds great!
I would love a new recorder to replace my old analog DVR. While I do get around it by feeding a digital s-video line to the recorder, this is more trouble. Being able to record in HD is much prefered. |

All of the above, plus the ability to make me coffee in the morning so I don't need to have a wife! Would also be nice to have it have an automatic timer, if it is on the start screen too long, it will automatically shut down. I have a horrible habit of falling asleep with my movies still playing. My TV shuts down with no input, so if the player turns off, the TV will shut off automatically as well.

But this reminds me, I would love a player / recorder or HDTV with a built-in HD Aquarium screen saver. This is more of a novelty rather than an actual need, but imagine, rather than turn off the TV, switch to Aquarium mode for soothing bubbles and living effect. I'm dying for finding Nemo on blu-ray for just such an aquarium. |

take out a ps3's guts... put it in a handsome case so that it blends in with other HT equipment, put a few USB ports in back, give it the ability to decode all HD Audio formats internally as well as bitstream them. give it a better internet browser which loads faster, and call it done.

Stand alone players are designed to read a disc and play it back at 1080p with audio options, and some overhead for Java, etc. Gaming systems have overhead for the complex calculations it must do to render life-like 3-D animations while controlling physics, etc. It would be great if you could do it for cheap, but we can't right now so stand alone players are slimmed down. |

a Sony BD Recorder, where you can insert your own chapter points and trim frame by frame. 1TB Hard Drive. 2x ATSC, 2x QAM cable HD Tuners. you can record two separate shows to the Hard Drive at once. HDMI out with 24 frame, and all audio bitstreaming. 2 HDMI inputs. A multi-card reader for all brands of HD camcorders with AVCHD. Firewire input for HDV and Mini DV camcorders. A copy-from-disc feature for copying small DVDs and Blu Rays from camcorders to be copied on to full size discs for distributing to friends and family in a user-friendly way. It has to be able to burn standard DVDs for all standard def stuff with the ability to downconvert HD content to standard DVD. That's all for now.
