I really like the Qualians on AVS…. so much so that I’ve broken bread with several on occasion…..and will continue to do so when the opportunity arises and they are in my neck of the woods. They are a fine bunch, no doubt. Truly interested in the best in home audio and video and each highly successful in their chosen professions.

It’s just that during the course of the format war as played out on AVS one member of that elite society went out of his way to kiss the arse of every MS insider on their Insider’s Thread and at the same time, antagonize or try to discredit every Blu-ray insider when the opportunity arose. More than one Blu-ray insider PM’ed me about this person’s behavior. Paidgeek stopped answering his questions at one point and just ignored the queries. Talkstr8t had more stamina for such games.

That is the story plain and simple and there is no need to belabor the point here. I will still try to help them in the future when I am able. They’re all good guys.

But enough on that as I’ve got a proclamation to post……….. my first, me thinks.

Default Hear Yee, Hear Yee

I would like to personally thank the Staff and members of Blu-ray.com for the nice gift I received at CES (through an intermediary, of course ).

It was quite a surprise and was a nice gesture of appreciation. I will display it on my desk prominently for all to see. As two of the lower lines of the inscription say………..
“Kick back, relax and have a glass of wine.
The war is almost over. It’s Blu-ray time.”

I couldn’t have said it ^ better myself and plan to do so.

Thanks again.

Why?

If anything, I think they'd want to crank out the Blu-ray catch-up titles until May, thereby depriving HD DVD of getting anything good during the last few months, and then after May concentrate on new releases.

Yes, I think we all have figured that out

Another question to the insiders with connectons to the stuidos:

Why do so few titles have more subtitels than maybe English, Spanish and maybe French? Espacially for catalouge titles. I am looking for Thai and Swedish subtitles but so far I have only seen som Sony titles with Thai. Very few contain more than 4 subtitles (like the Harry Potter movies and Replacement Killers).

Thank you Penton-Man and the other insiders.

With BluRay now about to have 100 percent of the studios backing the format are the studios going to change their release strategies? Are we now going to get a flood of BluRay versions of existing DVD titles or will it take years for BluRay to have the same amount of titles as DVD does now?

There is speculation that Warner has contractual obligations to keep some titles HD DVD exclusive until the contract with them runs out. Maybe an insider can confirm. This would likely run until May as well.

Some titles, particuarly the classic movies on the exclusive list did poorly, so they're going to wait on them for a reissue simply so it'll be worth the investment (hey I'm sobbing with you). The more popular titles (V, Charlie, Constantine etc) will probably be staggered over a year or so, and tied in with appropriate promotions or movie releases

Paidgeek,

The Japanese release of Hairspray will be released by SPE:
http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/do...111/speask.htm

The specs so far seem to be the same as the US release: VC-1 encode, DTS-MA audio (and its core) as the only English tracks.

But since it's being released by Sony and not by New Line, will it be encoded for Blu-ray bitrates instead of HD DVD bitrates? Or will it be the same encode as the US release?

Quite likely it's a simple port of the US disc

My thoughts as well, but I was asking here because I wanted to hear from someone who might know for sure.

I really hope that you are not talking about the Matrix and Batman Begins.
It has been said many many times that those have nothing to do with exclusivity contracts and no other titles would either.

It wouldn't matter if they were exclusive under contract until then. Maxpower already said Batman Begins was right before The Dark Knight in theaters which isn't until July and The Matrix wouldn't be until Q4 before Christmas. Those are both well beyond the May ending period anyways.

Please post the Thai word for Jessica, as I am Thai, and I cannot relate the word Jessica to mean "Do you want to have sex?"

The nearest word that I can think of is "เย็ด", pronounced "yet", but that is a slang, and you would NEVER ask someone that (it's just very derogatory and weird).

Jessica does mean something in Thai. The closest phonation is "เจ็ดสีกา" (jet-see-ka), which means seven ladies. "Jet" means seven, and "see-ka" is used when a buddhist monk addresses a woman.

In regards to this query from our Mystikal model…………..
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...8&postcount=50

The majors have the resources to get a foothold in the high-def optical disc market now even though it is not very profitable for them to do so at this time.
Weinstein simply doesn’t have the financial structure to get involved with Blu-ray imminently. They’ve actually spent more of their time recently working out the tiff with the Writers Guild.

Penton-Man,

Have you ever posted which BD player you use? Also, is the Q006 still your display of choice, or are you using something else for critical BD vewing these days?

Edit: Also, does paidgeek give you sample discs of new titles to check out? Don't name any titles, just curious if you get to see/use titles from SPHE before we get to buy them.
