Penton-man, not only is that a *brilliant* short (trey parker/matt stone?), but I'm wondering if you're hinting about a possible dual-format studio at CES? After all, a studio has to try new things if the old things are... well... old and stupid.

he's hinted at it before...this just makes it even better

the possibilities are great if the BDA can follow through at CES 08

100GB holds twice the data of 50GB. It effectively replaces two BD50's. Even if the yield rate for 100GB BD is only 1/2 that of 50GB BD, it's ok... I'd pay twice the price to get everything on a single disc than have to spread it over two. I'd pay more, as a consumer, and see value in getting a 75GB or 100GB BD of LOTR or a TV series, for instance, if it meant I woudn't have to swap as many discs to access content.

I have never seen any of the LOTR movies...

my 1st view will be on Blu

if they could press the entire trilogy onto on disc....

...well, that would just be... super...

No,
Mine (or perhaps mystik’s-- if she plays her cards right in the future ) is hanging safely in my closet.

That person should not be selling that jacket on e-bay. A gift means a gift. It must be the son/daughter of an executive that doesn’t give a twit about high definition movies.
Penton, here's a related trivia line for you...

"Giving away a gift from Pharoah is punishable by death."

(It's been quite a while since I've seen the film so the quote is probably not exact, but very close.)

If any insider can give us an indication of how the testing of the 100 GB disks is going, I'd appreciate it.

A 100 GB disk would allow high bit rates for the LOTR:ROTK EE. If a 50 GB disk is used we'd be capped at less than 26.6 Mbps (on average) for both video and audio. For 100 GB disks we'd be able to go as high as necessary for video and audio and still have a bit of room left over for extras.

And even 75GB BD (3 layer) would offer a serious boost for many movie-media applications. That would probably ease yield/compatibility issues and cover the advantages needed in many cases (LOTR, Ben-Hur etc.) outside of just trying to get every bonus item on a single platter.

Resolution has nothing to do with it. If all movies you buy are on Blu, how will you play them for the kids using your car's DVD player? You'd need an in-car BD player.

My dear, if I gave you an XL jacket, that would probably extend down to around your knees……………………

Wouldn’t that just defeat the purpose of *the director’s intent* for those bending over pics?

And we all know that Directors rule !

I think with the way Penton remembers links to articles and the way he drops hints, CIA.

he's actually an undercover agent working as a janitor for a contracted company servicing Sony, Fox, Universal, Warner, Toshiba, and Microsoft. He's gets to empty the document shredder and piece-back the boardroom minutes... Sweet...

No, Universal City is off of the 101 about 16 miles away from the 405 Location.

I will say flat-out. Based on yields from tests with formats that have higher tolerances than Blu-ray, the failure rate will be unnacceptibly high for any kind of mass replication

TotalHD is not on the market for a lot more reasons than only 1 dual format studio.
Which would be cheaper. Blade Runner on 5 discs or on 1 disc. I am sure alot of the data is replicated on the 5 discs.

This is exactly my point. Although my son is barely a year old (wow, they grow up fast), he will, at some point, be interested in taking the movies I buy in blu-ray with us on the mode of transportation, and I'll be damned if I let him use the laptop, lol

Maybe when he's 6...

Sorry I cannot resist. This is why you should not leave out "Ray" or at least use BD
