You should all give yourselves a pat on the back and take a bow.
Seriously, that is the most important change of 2007

Victory for Blu-ray. It feels great does it not?

And yeah, it is the INSIDER thread. Sorry about that.
Thanks! I was more referring to the last part of the thread title: Judgment Day Edition. Today is the Judgement Day! It does feel great and thank you all insiders and everybody else that have helped Blu-ray. I'm quite bored of HDD now but I guess some fanboys will disappear now and say that they really are purple/neutral. Have already seen this. However, I think this is a better place to be.

To the insiders:

I posted this on HDD way back in July. How much will this play a factor now then also Warner is Blu-ray exclusive?

How will the new DVD Forum look and what part will DVD Forum now play? If my estimations are correct, the new board will be decided in February. Am I correct?

Thanks to Penton, Paid, and all the insiders, you held the high ground throughout... They say you measure a mans character in how he handles adversity, and his class by how he handles prosperity... everyone showed nothing but upstanding character when they were getting kicked around for MONTHS in that other forum.... and now, with the graciousness of people in success, not just the insiders, but the average blu supporter is proving to have tons of class as well.

Thanks again insiders.

Yes, I did, but I started getting a lot of PMs and then posted that I was making a "prediction"

About 2 weeks ago I got a PM telling me that Warner was going exclusive just before CES. The anonymous source was sharing this to let me know my contest was wrapping up at just the right time. I figured it was likely an insider here and I wanted to be here to thank them when the war ended.

So, to whoever gave me a taste of actual insider information, I have many thanks.

Is Toshiba making a litigation threat in
their reply to the Warner announcement?
http://www.reuters.com/article/press...08+PRN20080104

Toshiba's Comment on Announcement from Warner Bros. Entertainment of Its
Exclusive Support for Blu-ray Disc Format

TOKYO, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba is quite surprised by Warner Bros.'
decision to abandon HD DVD in favor of Blu-ray, despite the fact that there
are various contracts in place between our companies concerning the support of
HD DVD.
As central members of the DVD Forum, we have long maintained a close
partnership with Warner Bros. We worked closely together to help standardize
the first-generation DVD format as well as to define and shape HD DVD as its
next-generation successor.
We were particularly disappointed that this decision was made in spite of
the significant momentum HD DVD has gained in the US market as well as other
regions in 2007. HD DVD players and PCs have outsold Blu-ray in the US market
in 2007.
We will assess the potential impact of this announcement with the other HD
DVD partner companies and evaluate potential next steps.
We remain firm in
our belief that HD DVD is the format best suited to the wants and needs of the
consumer.

Can an Insider comment please? I'm sure it was to be expected,
but it seems a little threatening to me.

Just curious Winn, did your source tell you Blu exclusive, or just exclusive?

I have absolutely zero pity for Toshiba and will never be buying any of their products. They were behind the Paramount payout that stunned the Blu-ray community that even yanked some good releases out from under us weeks before release. I'm glad that they got a taste of their own medicine.

The name of this thread is "Ask the Insiders". This is where we used to go to worry and fret about whether Blu-ray was finally going to put the stamp on HD DVD once and for all, where we'd go to have Blu-ray insiders reassure us that it was going to be OK in the end.

While I'm a big advocate of keeping this thread clean and always like to see when they've done a mass deletion of posts, in this case I think it's perfectly appropriate that they make an exception. People want to celebrate that all the veiled promises of the insiders have come to fruition.

If I were a moderator, I'd pretty much just throw out the rule book for this thread, let people go nuts, and eventually start a new Insiders thread when people have calmed down a bit.

Warner Home Video will continue to release its titles in standard DVD format and Blu-ray. After a short window following their standard DVD and Blu-ray releases, all new titles will continue to be released in HD DVD until the end of May 2008.
I suppose I could post this in the warner thread, but perhaps the insiders might care to comment on the above quote. Am I correct in reading into that WB will release new titles on HD DVD until may (but only after releasing on BD and DVD), but not catalog titles? I haven't paid much attention to release announcements this year, but have they announced any catalog titles? Would they cancel those?

Thanks

All good info thanks Max.
Now if we can just get that next punch from say Uni at CES then this think could be over in a matter of weeks not months.

I think they might even hold back on titles like "I am Legend" which is supposed to hit DVD somewhere in March/May correct? Those will probably be Blu only
