Just a bit of trivia.

Stephen Sondheim (the great musical theatre composer, who wrote Sweeney Todd), has always wanted to write a musical version of Groundhog Day. From what I recall in interviews he has done, he has always been fascinated by this film and has always wanted to musicalize it for the stage (and quite possibly a film version, perhaps).

anyone know which version the bluray will be based on (since there were 3)?

hopefully it will carry over all special features from all previous versions (which i think the 3rd release did)....but i hope the cover is from the 1st or 2nd version. the 3rd airbrushed cover looked stupid.

Don't know but pretty sure it will have the extra of the 3rd version. Sony does new scan or transfert for most their catalog title. So it will look the best at it can right now without costing millions

I watched it last night.

Video is great. The grainhaters will want to stay away from this release, however, as some external shots are a bit grainy and I can already see the massive thread of complaints. The interior and close-up shots are extremely detailed - I'll give Sony props for creating a wonderful looking Blu-ray release. Fans of the film are not going to be disappointed. Sharp, colorful video that really pops on the screen.

Audio is amazing. Yes, its is very dialog heavy, but the openning credits sound awesome, and you can really appreciate the extra fidelity when they are walking in the snow and you can actually hear their footsteps faithfully reproduced. Anyone who has walked in the snow knows that sound, and it is very realistic. The only problem comes in one of the hotel scenes where they really should have done some ADR. The audio is softer than the rest of the film, and it sounds like the mic was too far away during filming. Never noticed that on the DVD, but that's what a high quality audio soundtrack gives you.

Its a great release that fans definitely need to pick up. You'll be a bit scared when you see the grain at first, but as soon as they do a close-up, you'll know you're watching something special.

This was one of those movies where I saw the theatrical trailer and pissed myself laughing. Saw the movie opening day and kept waiting for it to get funny.

I'll pass on the movie. Hopefully the preview shows up on another BD that I buy...

I've seen too many people complain about a film being too grainy (300 got slammed on these boards because of the heavy grain), so I simply warned those who might be grain haters.
