I've never understood the following that Star Wars gets.
I saw the first film when it opened in the UK in 1978 and I enjoyed it as any sci fi fan would , and even enjoyed the original version of ROTJ.

The later movies are of little interest to me but I can understand why Lucas would make them .
Cash cow or what .
I have the Blurays but give me Back to the Future , Indiana Jones or even the Jurassic Park trilogy over Star Wars .
I can't see why SW has quite the level of fanatic followers it has - even more than Star Trek it seems.

But I do look forward to the day ( if it ever comes) when I can watch a Bluray containing the films as I saw them when they were made.

Should be a good marketing tool to get us to buy them all on Bluray again

I don't understand why they're even here. They seem to hate everything about Lucas, everything about the prequels and even much about the original trilogy. Even if the original version of the original trilogy were to be re-released, they'll complain about the mastering, the color, the opticals, the audio or whatever else they can imagine. And if heaven forbid, Disney does re-release the OT and removes the 20thCFox logo and/or adds their own, World War III will break out.

I'm no Lucas fanboy. I see major flaws in all the films and especially the PT and written extensively about that. But I think people are really fooling themselves if they think that the untouched original trilogy is going to be such a different and better experience than what's been released on Blu.

I also re-watched the six films on Blu a few months ago. And while I still (obviously) saw all the plot flaws, bad writing and bad acting in the PT, I actually liked the PT far more than when I saw them theatrically. In spite of the flaws, incredible worlds were created and even with the over-use of CGI, it was all beautifully executed. It looks and sounds great on Blu.

There are plenty of films that I don't like at all. I don't go to threads that discuss those films. I don't understand why anyone who hates these films would continually comment here unless their only purpose is to bait people.

What?? That's almost as bad as one of your prior posts which claimed that Attack of the Clones was the best of the six films.

First of all, there's a lot of hardcore Star Wars fans that will complain about something-- right now the most baffling one to me is the guys who hate that the old books and comics have been "decanonized." It's like really? There's NEW Star Wars movies coming out and all you can think about is the novel canon? Holy crap, people.

HOWEVER... that doesn't really sum up people that have been wanting the UOT to be restored and put out on Blu-Ray (or even decent quality DVD back in the day). The UOT absolutely deserves to be preserved and restored in high quality for Blu-Ray. Hell, I think brand new 4K screenings of them in theaters before Episode VII would be a fantastic idea as well. I have a feeling the vast majority of fans would be happy with the exact versions of the films that were released as "bonus material" on the last DVD reissues, just in restored quality. Only really hardcore fans would be having a problem with all of the sound mixes not being included or something like that.

And I don't really understand your statement about UOT not being a different experience from the Blu-Ray. Keep in mind the Blu-Ray versions are the THIRD time the three movies have had updated effects and content alterations. Factoring in all of the altered special effects, added scenes, actor/character changes, etc., that's a pretty big difference. It's like saying Blade Runner is the same experience with or without the narration.

Finally, the really staunch Lucas haters AND defenders bait each other equally. I've seen insults and passive-aggressive posts from plenty of people on both sides. And all of these people are passionate about Star Wars in some way, which is why the feel the need to post opinions/arguments about it. It's not quite the same as just going in and thread-crapping some random movie you think sucks.

I'm honestly fine with people liking the PT or the Special editions. I just REALLY wish that the UOT would be given equal treatment, that's all. almost NO movie fan in ANY OTHER movie wishes that the theatrical cut would never be brought to light. it just doesn't happen. My dream set is buying a 5 disc "Blade Runner" type release for each movie. the OCD completionist in me would buy those movies in a heartbeat

I guess it would be pretty cool to get both the UOT and the 1997 versions. They can't really do much else with any versions past that, as is my understanding, since all of the content and effects alterations beginning with the DVD release were done with a 2K digital file. They would literally have to recreate all of the alterations from scratch to do a better quality version of what was released in the Complete Saga edition.

I'd actually like to see Disney allow and fund George Lucas to go back and redo his preferred "Final Editions" or something from scratch. He could put back in every alteration he wanted, plus they could redo all of the added CGI and fix all of the lightsabers and other technical hiccups they've missed so far. That's just a pipe dream but I think it would be a cool curiosity to go along with the UOT.

A Star Wars The Final Cut like the Blade Runner would be great. Disney could give Lucas some more money to change and add more crap to the films and fix the lightsabers to make them uniform one last time. The other 15 versions along with the UOT could be put in the set also.

Also, after the new trilogy is finished, they could go back to the previous six films and put characters and planets from those movies in. The cloaked guy with the medieval lightsaber could be hanging around watching the podrace, for example.

I always wanted the ending of Jedi changed to where Yoda and Ben's force ghosts appear to Luke and then Anakin is shown...then Qui Gon shows up and smacks Anakin in the back of the head.

I like the idea that the Emperor wins and Darth Vader destroys the rebels bringing order to the Empire. Darth Vader is the true good guy and the rabble rouser rebels are the ones who need to be beat up ... Lucas got it wrong!

CGI and some script editing...make it so number one!

Sometimes I wonder why he just didn't remake the originals all together...or would that still not make him happy?

That's where all my frustration with Lucas stems from. I wouldn't be bothered at all by all his tinkering as long as there were a choice of cuts for us to choose from. And it's such a simple solution which leads me to believe that George is just being stubborn about it. Hopefully that all that changes with Disney.
Put them all in a box set from the original theatrical releases to the 90's special editions to the 2000's cgi infestation editions. Honestly, I'd only buy it to get the original releases on blu but I'd still buy it.

Was looking at the little graph on the deals page for the complete collection boxed set of Star Wars and according to that the lowest it's ever been at Amazon is $60. Hmmm, if that's the case I might not ever own it cuz no way I am paying more than $50.

That there hasn't been a sale on it in 3 years where the price dipped into the $40-$50 range is nuts.
