People continue to mention the fear of discs in this set becoming scratched by the cardboard packaging.

Pheeeeww, boy oh boy.

How many times must it be said that it is VERY difficult to scratch Blu-Rays? I must have over 160 of them, and none of them, to my knowledge, have a single scratch or scuff on them. Every Blu-Ray has a smooth protective coat over the plastic that houses the "data sheet" to put it in laymans terms.

DVD was another story. No protective coat whatsoever, and under normal circumstances, DVDs received light scratches from just sitting and spinning in a DVD player. That is not the case with Blu-Ray, rest assured.

So set all fears aside. The package may be "cardboard" and "cheap", but it looks nice and I'm sure it'll be sturdy. As long as you take care of your "shit" as they say, you will be just fine.

m'kay?

So, this is Fox, the review will only be allowed to be published on the release date. Will Casey take the task again? I know he usually does for Fox titles, but I hope Ken will give his take this time.

I'm sure we'll get reviews earlier, they'll be interesting but this site is the one I'm looking forward to.

After this set is released my life will be complete. With all the problems the movies have (because they are 30 years) old. I will still love the films. Fanboys these days are spoiled and want everything their way. As a kid watching these movies at the theaters we didn't have the internet to complain all day long and we just accepted the errors in the movies as they were. We understood, even as children that these were just scifi/fantasy movies and NOT real. It was a way to escape and have a good time.
Ugh, people in the 70s and 80s didn't complain about the "errors" because back then they weren't errors, and even if they were people weren't aware of them. Your minds were blown when you saw things never before thought possible on the screen. The errors came decades later when Lucas tinkered with the movies. See: Greedo shooting first in 1997, then Han shooting at the same time in 2004. If that isn't an admission of a mistake I don't know what is. Of course, it's still wrong.

I find it interesting that most of you want this movies to be perfect...like a totally new movie...and you compare it to a NEW film..you just can't do that. the movies are old...the colors will always be off somehow with that 70's look/ style. I guess we should also change luke's hair so it doesn't look so 70s? To fit todays hair style? Oye VEY.
Now you're just contradicting yourself. First you say people should accept updates, now you claim that older elements should remain and purists should not expect perfection. In reality those fans want the opposite - they want imperfection. The only person who strives irrationally for perfection is Lucas. You suggest that something like Luke's hair should represent the era in which it took place, although this point doesn't apply to your argument. That's exactly the point of someone like myself - adding updated effects to the movies takes away the sense of magic you get when watching them and realizing when they were made. Now the movies are more CGI than old school, twisted and evil.

I have absolutely no problem with the updates, the colors, the CGI, Jar Jar. You know why? because i'm a real fan. I'm mature and I can appreciate a good director. All of the six movies. I love TPM yes. I do.

This has to be another troll post, unless Lucas manipulated midichlorians and conceived you from the living force. I support your every right to enjoy the movies in any form, but why can't Lucas defenders acknowledge there are people who prefer the original versions without awkward CGI and screwed up colors? When you use an argument of being a "real fan" there's really no room for sensible discussion. Quite frankly, this is the same argument certain political groups use when others disagree with them, claiming those detractors are not true patriots instead of addressing the core topics. It's child-level reasoning at best and tells me I should bow out of this one. I concede superior fandom to thee.

I am so happy about the deleted scenes. I've never seen them before! I have already bought the set, so nothing anyone on the internet posts about it is changing my point of view, as it shouldn't.

Also, can anyone explain why red lightsabers in the PT are red? See Palpatine and Dooku.

[Show spoiler]

If red is red for the sith lords, why should Vader's saber be magenta in the updated OT transfers? Wouldn't consistency among the six movies make more sense? Hmm...I sense a great distu-- you get my point.

those lightsabers are not red.

this is red.

Those lightsabers are white pink in the middle and white/red on the edges...from white to pink to light red.

By red, I mean red on the edges. Not solid red. Anybody can infer that. You're avoiding the main issue. Also, you should put that large block in a spoiler tag.

So are you saying there's not a difference between the blu-ray trailer shot of Vader's lightsaber in ESB and the other screenshots? Is the change an intended creative decision with artistic merit?

Any takers? Lucasfilm's email to kenkraly (and to nobody else!) said the lightsabers were fixed. Does this constitute fixed? I'm genuinely curious. I would have expected something similar to those PT lightsabers, which would match older versions of the OT, but perhaps I am in the minority.

Bueller?

Character change.

1997 Vader was still a badass, Jedi killing machine.
2011 Vader is a whiny manboy who cries when he kills things.

Lightsabers contain crystals..made of different colors that can change at any given time...its like light going thru a diamond and the diamond putting out different colors of the spectrum. A red lightsaber crystal can diminish overtime in color like a glass would lose its shine or a dirty crystal.

The lightsaber crystal in Vaders saber in the PT was somewhat red in the edges. How do you know he didn't change or found a more pink crystal and put it into his lightsaber in 30 years? The color of the crystal could have faded also.

Again, you're either trolling or dead serious. Either way you don't have a legitimate response to the evidence I've provided because there is none. The changes are nonsensical and now you're just making things up.

I rest my case!

Maybe this is part of a new change to the movies, and it is actually Mace in the Darth Vader! He will now get his revenge by cutting the right hand of the son of the person who cut Mace's right hand off

Lol, what do fake lightsaber crystals have to do with consistency? Sorry, but this is just ridiculous. Vader doesn't even have a red lightsbaer in the PT for one and two Vader's saber is RED. It is red in every piece of marketing, book, and graphic ever created for him. Oh, but I guess he decided he was feeling pink when he woke up one morning. Pink power!

I'm no expert on this, but many of the marketing and merch pictures that have been posted in this thread recently have shown a more magenta color. I would say this statement is incorrect.

Vader's saber color will not ruin this set for me. I couldn't be more excited

You didn't make a good case or shut down any "theory". Vader's saber was red. Fact. Your "case" was based on Anakin/Vader using a red lightsaber in the PT. He used a blue lightsaber in the PT. Then you posted some nonsense about crystals fading, a concept that was never presented in the films. Even if it had been, that point would have been moot as Anakin/Vader never had a red saber in the PT as you incorrectly stated. On top of that, Vader's lightsaber was red in ESB prior to the release of the 2004 DVD set, and is still red in some parts of the '04 ESB while pink in others. Fluctuating crystal, perhaps?
