Well, I finished the Prequels and Disc 7 and Disc 9. Really enjoying the set so far.

I've even watched the Prequels twice, once with the new Archival Commentary.

But I'm really almost dreading jumping into the OT films. Not really sure why. Just haven't been in the mood.

I'm thinking about just jumping in with the Archival Commentaries in fact. Will make it easier to get through ANH especially.

It's weird. I love the films. But it's almost a legitimate sense of dread to watch them again. Especially without Rifftrax.

Just finished watching all the movies and would like to give a small review. Before I give my review I want to be clear that I like all the movies and don’t mind any of the changes that he has made so the review is about the blu rays and nothing more.

I will refer to the movies with the #s 1-6 as in episodes 1-6.

The first two movies (1 and 2) look very good. I don’t personally like film grain so for me these movies looked amazing. Keep in mind I watch my TV on vivid picture mode so even the softer parts look very clean, bright, and full of color and detail. If I watched movies on theater mode like I know a lot of people do then I could see how they might be too soft but in vivid I give both movies an easy 4.5-5 for picture.

The 3rd (ROTS) movie is an easy 5 for picture and some parts are as good as avatar. What a fun movie to watch.

For audio these 3 movies are simply some of the best multi-channel audio on the planet. Just giving them a 5 for sound isn’t enough. I have a lot of great audio blu rays but the work they did on these is another level of detail wow nice job.

Movie 4 (new hope) is the only movie that didn’t wow me. The sound was ok but on the really loud parts it falls apart and even distorted on some stuff. It also had a really brassy sound that was a huge drop from the clean sounding audio from movies 1, 2 and 3. I would give it a 3 for audio and a 4 for picture.

Movies 5 and 6 look amazing. It was like I was watching these movies for the first time (even though I have these movies over 10 times each). They look so good that it was hard for me to pay attrition sometimes because I was looking all around at the back grounds and details. I give these a 4.5 and in some places a perfect 5 for picture.

The audio for 5 and 6 was a great improvement from movie 4 new hope. Still not the reference levels of the 1, 2 and 3 but better than they have ever sounded and are both a strong 4 for audio.

If just comparing these movies to other old movies they would rank higher but I’d rather just rate them vs everything.

Overall I’m actually shocked how good they did on these. I do recommend for people that watch movies in a theater type mode for their TV picture to try a vivid or dynamic mode. These movies have no grain so going vivid or dynamic is really a nice mode for these.
Pre T TPM P/A /4.5/5
AOTC 4.5/5
ROTS 5/5
Original ANH 4/3
ESB 4.5/4
ROTJ 4.5/4

Just finished up my custom cover art.

Had to keep it simple, as I didn't want to use up a bunch of black ink

Wasn't the best decision for the Archives discs. I should have had I II III at the top, IV V VI at the bottom with "Lucasfilm Archives" in the middle or something like that... o well

EDIT:

FACEPALM! The Archives set says IV-V for Disc 2... should be IV-VI... DOH!

Nice! I like the simple custom cases. Though I'm still more than happy with the book packaging they came in.

Thanks

I love the book as well, but hate the slots.

I still have the box on my shelf beside my Alien Anthology box, which also has the discs in their own cases.

Actually, the Complete Saga is one of the only packages that has me looking at it on my shelf pretty much non-stop... it's pretty distracting, but so AWESOME! Just the colour and everything, almost all the blu-rays on my shelf have black/dark art...

LOVE IT

I've watched the first 7 minutes or so and I can't say I've seen a blue hue in the corners.

However this happens a lot with certain wide angle lenses even in photography today, so it wouldn't surprise me if you're seeing a small portion of the edge of the camera lens that wasn't matted out.

I have noticed the green line on the right side again, it turns pink against a blue background

There are already quite decent looking UOT versions. I just downloaded a set and although I still haven't watched it, I samples I saw were pretty good. It is because of that set that I'm postponing my purchase of the saga.

It always looks odd to me seeing US cases, they are always slim ones. We don't get very many of those here.

The only slim cases I have like that are the ones in the xmen quadrilogy boxset, each has its individual slim case. Casino Royal that came free when you registered your launch PS3 back in 07. And two wrestling Blu-rays.

The other thing I notice about US releases they have some sort of black security tag inside them. Whats the deal with that? I got the US Firefly set and it had them in, and I see them all the time in unboxing videos. We never have anything like that here.

Wow, those are bad. That looks like something you typed in Word in about 20 minutes.

In other news my set arrived in the mail today and I watched The Phantom Menace and it worked fine all the way through with my LG BH200 and Onkyo TX-SR606. There were a few softer scenes and some very mild and brief DNR, but nothing overly obtrusive. The audio was really intense though and it blew the old DVDs away. I'd give the PQ an 8/10 and the AQ an 10/10. Moving onto AOTC tonight.

You answered your own question, my man.

But to be be honest, they're there so that scanners at the doors of the stores will pick them up if a shoplifter tries to take the item out without paying for it. (They're deactivated at the register when paid for.)

However, they're not in all releases. Doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason why they're in particular packages.

The surface of my Episode II disc is flawless and I don't see any paint flaking off of the printed side.

I have petitioned Panasonic to investigate this situation by sending them an E-mail via their web site:

http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-e...t/Contact-Us.2

If you have a Panasonic brand player and you're experience audio and/or video issues with the Star Wars set, please take a few moments to write to Panasonic and explain the problem. If enough people write, hopefully, we'll have a firmware update/fix sooner rather than later.

Mark
Unfortunately the problem is not limited to just Panasonic players, I have a Sony and going thru all 1700+ pages of this thread reveals several people with Sony players that are having the same problems. What I can't figure out is I am only having problems with episodes I, II & III, where other people are only having problems with IV.

Yeh I guess I could have worded that question better

It's just that over here it's left to the individual store to apply their own theft protection. So I was quite surprised to see them stuck on the inside of cases. Here they stick them on the outer case. Or they have a plastic tag that actually slides in the case like this...

Causes no end of damage inside some cases.

not all releases in North America have the little black bars

my Alien Anthology set had it stuck on the back of the paper attatched to the back... left a nice indentation on the back of the box

some stores attach a spider tag, it's basically a circular security tag (~1.5" in diameter) with a cable going around the top and sides of the box... they always damage the box

Luckily the Complete Saga has a little white piece of cardboard behing the "guide to the galaxy" with the magnetic bar and patch on it, so no damage
