Why because we have been told by LFL many times over the years that their is no good copy of the UOT other than in their vaults and in the hands of a few collectors . I'm sure if LFL asked those collectors who have those prints , where going to grant you amnesty and we would like to barrow these prints of the UOT to scan them in HD and we will return them and give them back to you. That would be a good way for LFL to go as far as retoring the prints of the UOT.
A blu sourced from a scanned release print would look terrible, especially a print 25+ years old like in the UOT's case. I've read that some of the early 70mm blowups of the first SW were answer prints struck from the OCN. If any of them survived they might be decent sources, kind of like an interpositive. 35mm release prints have terrible resolution when projected. The horizontal resolution is less than 750 lines and the vertical resolution is even worse because the contact printing process smears it due to the different rates at which the film is moving. It gets worse the more the film is screened. Scanned and restored, it might look better than DVD but only barely.

Not that we should give up hope of ever seeing the UOT again. I wouldn't drink the Lucasfilm 'UOT no longer exists' kool aid. I guarantee there is are a few good interpositives in the Lucasfilm archives. The OCN for the Jabba scene in SW was missing so they used one of the IPs for the special edition scene.

Even better, despite the potentially true rumor that SE footage was spliced into the OCN, I doubt they tossed any of the original footage replaced. It's probably in the archives and very scannable. Yeah SW deteriorated bad but Lowry scanned this 'bad' OCN for the DVD (and blu ray). All the elements exist to re-create the UOT, it's just a matter of scanning them and editing them back together. Lowry scanned the OCNs at 1920x1080 and this is what we have on blu. It deserves one of those 8k scans, even if that 8k is overkill these films are pretty darn important.

How is this still the most popular thread?

So what's endgame? 40000 posts? Even the Predator thread stopped at some point.

The set has only been out for a month.

The thread stops when we get the UOT

Intentional or not, TPM still looks like shit. The DVD was so ****ing hideous that I was expecting the Blu-ray to blow me away. It did not, which speaks volumes for how badly they screwed the pooch on TPM. Again.

Not sure if this was posted, but i found a few new additions to Revenge of the Sith:
When Obi-Wan is on his was to Utapau, he talk to some Clones next to his Jedi StarFighter, and there is very clearly a White guy in Trooper Armour.
On the Blu-Ray, there are more Jango Clones and the White guy is replaced with a Jango Clone...

I also noticed an audio change during the fight between Grievous and Kenobi, the clones troopers audio can be heard yelling much more vibrantly as they make their decent from the hangers overhead. I never noticed it on the DVD.

I couldn't spot any white guys on the DVD, they even talk about how Morrison was shot in a blue suit were they matched the costumes later with CGI, there are subtle differences with each clone though.

Only in the world of George Lucas could Febuary 10th be classified as: "...next Summer."

Only those who irrationally hate Lucas would dwell on such minutiae.

He's the one standing behind the StarFighter, near the cockpit.
It was very (to me) obvious in the Cinema...
You can see him on the DVD though...

Vader in 3D? Is he planning to get to Revenge of the Sith 3D by next summer? Seems a little quick.

NEW TOPIC PLEASE! NEW TOPIC PLEASE! NEW TOPIC PLEASE!

@haters;
if you people hate the movies so much - get off this thread!

@self-righteous
Lucas is not evil, unless by some account you can prove beyond any doubt that he has in fact committed an unforgiveable haneous crime worthy of making him "evil", by which I don't know what standards you are basing this upon anyways - so declare.

@transferbabies
Does the DNR'd Episode look better than the DVD transfer? BY FARRRRRR! So shut it. Is it perfect? probably not, but hey - look forward to 2 or 3 more bluray relases, hopefully with a non-dnr's episode 1

@UOTwackos
We just may have to suck it up eventually and live with the 2006 LE's: I've come to the realization that it may not happen again. But then again, we didn't expect it to happen pre-2006 either - it was a welcomed surprise! The UOT on the 2006 LE's look 100 times better than any of my VHS copies do, so i'm happy with them!

Let's end this conflict - and show the blurays some love instead of whining about every pixel and word of dialogue.

IF you hate the movies or bluray release so much - go make your own movies and come back to this thread and show us how pretty you are. I dare you.

END! End! End!
