Can't the superfans just admit they like the cartoon animals, instead of invoking the "artist's preference" thing? Because if Lucas ever had a change of heart and decided to revert the movies back to the way they were, all of that would go right out the window. They'd all be scrambling for the nearest bootleg of a software-enhanced fan-edit. Whichever one has the most extra ships pasted over it.

I may be late to the game on bringing this up but I'm watching Star Wars on Spike HD right now and it looks really good. I have not seen it in a long time and at that time it was all stretched out and very SD looking. Makes me look forward to next year.

I hope I can just get Episode 4,5 and 6 in a set. I dont want the newer trilogy. Hopefully Lucas gives us a choice or I will just watch then on spike every year hehe.

I have a feeling we'll see the two trilogies broken up like that in early 2012. That's when I'll be making by move to snag the originals.

I keep waiting for that other documentary that was on History Channel in 2008. It was suppose to be release on DVD or Blu-ray but I never seen it.

I do feel that the original trilogy, as it was originally created, is historically important. By that I mean that the original trilogy that audiences watched in 1977, 1980, and 1983 made a significant impact on film, and the science fiction film genre in general. I feel it is important to preserve something that made such an undeniable impact on popular culture as it was originally created.

Will I refuse to buy the new versions of the original trilogy? Of course not! I love Star Wars, and I will buy the Blu-ray release regardless. However, I feel it would be a shame if the original incarnation of the films, the cuts and "primitive" special effects that impacted and inspired so many (flaws and warts and all), that helped pave the way for absolute incredible breakthroughs in film special effects, were to be forgotten. I would love to have a high quality version of the films that would showcase both the original cuts, and their evolution into the modern film era.

Just my 2 cents, and hopefully my small share of sanity to add to this thread.
Agree as well. However, I don't really care all that much for the old unaltered versions. Well, the only thing that I'd restore from the unaltered version of ANH is some of the needlessly changed Cantina creatures. I mean, WTF was that about?

As for this new version, I just hope that these will be the ultimate editions. And that is that everything that could possibly be fixed, be fixed. And the most important things for me is the lightsabers and the laser blaster bolts. As well, as perhaps, better color timing for the explosions where the color was washed out on the DVD versions...yes, Battle of Yavin, I'm looking at you.

Right you are.

I have been watching these this week on SPIKE, and from 'A New Hope' you either get them in black and white or blooming orange with some weird green thrown in to boot.

I assume that this will be fixed for the upcoming BD release.

One thing I hope they fix is in some scenes, you could see that the space around some of the ships was a bit brighter than the black sky.

Garbage mattes.

Blu-ray has naturally deeper blacks than SD/DVD. As long as they don't artificially raise the gamma/contrast in the transfer they shouldn't be an issue very often.

Without a doubt, Empire was the best film of the series. A sad loss, indeed.

Ditto. I am a HUGE Star Wars fan, but I will not buy the original trilogy if it also comes with the new trilogy. I will wait for the original trilogy to come out on its own. I know that they are doing a complete box set, but I hope that they will release 4, 5, and 6 on their own.
