Bring back 1997 Jabba too, the 2004 version looks like a PS1 model!

Surreal to think that the classic trilogy has been allowed to be mistreated for so long.

If these new versions are what we can expect on 4K disc - minus the original cuts, DISNEY can shove it. I’m not supporting this sh*t.

As I said recently in another thread (T2 I believe), it seems some movies are forever destined to be handled improperly.

Overall, I'll take the 2011 Blu-ray's over any of these streaming versions and all of the previous versions. I have the Despecialized Editions for nostalgic reasons, but when I marathon or watch them regularly, it's Lucas' preferred versions on the physical media with proper contrast and colors and incredible lossless DTS-HD MA audio.

Okay, so I signed up for Disney+ a few hours ago and I can't wait for episode 2 of The Mandalorian.

Moving on.

I have to say I was impressed with my sampling of A New Hope. The detail and colors were so much better than the Blu-Ray. Even the added CGI effects in Mos Eisley didn't look as bad as I was used to with the warmer, earthier tone.

Wait, what, you think the '97 Jabba looks better and less like a "PS1 model" than the '04 Jabba?!

Those were Lucas' preferred versions in 2011. George is such a Flavor of the Month kinda guy that he has long since moved on from those and now prefers Greedo to say "Maclunkey", or at least he did the following year when prepping for the ill-fated 3D releases. By now he probably has a whole new set of preferences for how the films should be at this point, but now that he doesn't own them anymore he's forced to leave them how they are.

Yes, the Blu-ray's have lot's of color and contrast, but I don't know if I'd call any of that "proper". All of that black crush and lobster complexion doesn't really seem right to me personally, but if you enjoy them then that's your prerogative.

I think in the Blu-ray Greedo shoots a couple frames before Han and now they shoot at the same exact time. At least that’s how it looks to me when I look at the comparisons on YouTube and pause them.

04 Jabba is too dark and all of his folds look awful, standing out from the real actors.

TBH, the 97 Jabba looks better design-wise. But both of them have awful CGI.

I wonder when Lucas will release his own fan-made Respecialized Editions.

Oof, just made it through ROTS with the wife, on our march toward RISE OF SKYWALKER. Glad that's behind us. So many missed opportunities with the execution, it makes me angry/sad every time I see it; definitely my least favorite of all the STAR WARS flicks.

I've had a tumultuous relationship with the prequels: hated them when they first arrived, learned to genuinely enjoy them in the run-up before FORCE AWAKENS (for some reason that crashed Star Destroyer on Jakku, in those early FORCE AWAKENS trailers, made me embrace the phrase "all STAR WARS is good STAR WARS")... but I gotta tell ya, now that I've hugely enjoyed every single live action thing Disney has done with STAR WARS, the prequels are once again pretty tough for me to get through. They were kinda "okay" for awhile when they were fully half the saga, but now that I include SOLO and ROGUE ONE, and have lovvvvved VII and VIII, and have also just enjoyed the first episode of THE MANDALORIAN... wow, the prequels suffer in comparison to all this. For me. Just for me (well, and my wife); just expressing my opinion in-the-moment, having just finished ROTS and feeling like a weight has been lifted 'cuz the prequels are behind us.

Anyhoo... on to SOLO in a couple days. I can literally declare: "here's where the fun begins".
