You just pointed where most of the anger is coming from, the fact that Lucas just won't release the older version since he see's them as no longer valid.

Why, aside from Lucas's slavish devotion to technological revisionism, and this new crop of fans' slavish devotion to him, would anyone perceive the film to be lacking - particularly people who claim to *like* the film?

Since people have been talking about the Godfather, let's make a comparison: If current technology allowed Coppola to remove De Niro and insert a picture-perfect computer copy of a young Marlon Brando into the flashback sequences of Vito in Godather 2, should he?

As good as De Niro was, he never really got the back of the throat rasp right, and his face is too gaunt, and his eyes are the wrong colour, you can tell it's not Brando.

Or is that sacred? I see no difference...

UNLESS the original is given the same opportunities to be made available right along side the doctored version - and "doctored" is the right word.
I agree that The Empire Strikes Back is a near perfect film. I mean, its amazing to be honest.

But, one thing to remember about Coppola is that he actually kinda/sorta started the 'revisionist' film movement by going back and putting the Godfather 1 & 2 in chronological order for television (7 hour version). I have to think his doing that planted seeds for a lot of filmmakers (Lucas in this case) to 're-visit' their films and make changes. That version, btw, is not available on blu ray, only the originals. Which, I have to admit, is kinda funny as with Star Wars it is the opposite.

There as valid as the money they made at the Box Office, if we only count the SE's they'll drop down a few places. You can't re-write history. Maybe he counts them as ongoing projects for TAX reasons....

Thewishes to speak:

Why is everyone so interested in yesteryear's UOT versions. i mean how much better do you think the UOT's would be on blu-ray? It still would be the same as the special editions. Besides Lucas would do better to include the non blu-ray versions with the upconvert that you get when you put a dvd into a blu ray player i mean it is not much but at least it is something.

Thehas finished speaking and, will now go back to his room till he can think of something else smart to say.

Well there is a story that goes that they are part of the divorce settlement with his wife and as such for every dime he would make on them he would have to give her nalf of the dime and from that there is the reason to modify them under the special edition and just ignore the old version.

Is this true or not? Who can say but it would not be the first time a former husband is pissed off at a divorce settlement

Those two would have the ability to say "No, maybe try this..." and Lucas might have listened. If I do recall he had Speilberg sit down and offer talking points on the last 1/2 hour of TPM? I could be wrong there. Wishful thinking I know, but he could have really knocked it out of the park if he had the right kind of help. . . .
I may be mistaken, but I remember hearing that Speilberg actually directed some of the scenes in ROTS.

Back to your corner, you should remain there until recess.... then you can stand in the corner of the yard and be used as a dodgeball practice target.

I think the first time I heard of it was that David Prowse hadn't had any of the bonuses and the accounting department told him because the final grosses were not yet tallied (as they were been re-released until the end of time) it would be getting zilch....

That's incorrect. He gave suggestions prior to shooting the final duel but didn't actually direct any scenes. This is supported in the special features on the DVD.

I respectfully bow out - you were right - it IS there... I had to look it over. My aps.

I must have "blocked" it from my memory because it's so freaking stupid.

It seems to be the only answer to explain why the Skywalkers don't just escape from that bumbling idiot Watto... but I don't believe it was meant to have any deeper connections to anything else in the 6 core films.

(it may be removed for my fan edit)

I thought he did Pre-Viz on some scenes?

Most of these goofs are caused by the "prop" sabers. George could replace these digitally, but idk if he will do it, but they are hilarious

Episode 3 could have done better but after 6 years of complaint by some fans it really just had a hard time recovering. It's too bad since it's a good movie.
Ep 3 is an AWESOME movie. Just to bad Ani had to go dark side - imagine if he had done the right thing and killed Palp and then quit the Jedi, raise a family (in the force) and start his own Jedi order. I bet there is a comic or something about that.

Back to point - I agree - Ep 3 is the best of the PT and has some incredible cool parts - can't wait to see in HD.

I thought it was silly as well, he can get in a pod and go miles away, thats okay?

Shmi loosing their freedom on Podrace doesn't seem right either. She didn't seem the type but I guess people do odd things in difficult circumstances.

her and Anakin were already slaves, they were lost by Gondola the Hutt (or whatever the name was can't look it up now) to Watto in a podrace bet. She did not place the bet. From what I can see she was a slave long before and Anakin was born as a slave.

I think the name is Gardulla The Hutt.

Besides she won freedom when Cliegg Lars freed her and married her sadly though one day she went to pick mushrooms that grow on the moisture vaporators and never returned.

Of course she didn't return, she was captured by sand people, I wish the movies had made more of an effort to tell viewers how many people went after her, as it is, it seems like Cliegg was the only one.

I am not in anyway picking on you, just a head's up before you read further, okay?

But this is sort of silly. I mean, those lightsabers are only on screen for a few seconds. This is the type of microscopic subjection the OT never had to go through because the technology back in the day didn't exit to 'freeze frame' at such a high resolution. There are gaffs in EVERY movie and this stuff is hardly noticable when watching the film in action. So, I would ask the original writer of that article: "Who cares?" Dude needs to go outside..lol.

There is a gaff in Return of the Jedi too. Well, not sure if its a gaff or Harrison Ford was just lucky, but.... Han grabs Leia's boob after she is shot in Return of the Jedi. Yup, even Harrison Ford could not resist after seeing the Bikini in the first half of the film...LOL
