Well, other than the documentaries on disc 9, we don't know a lot of specifics yet, so I can't really say.
As I have never seen the ones included, it's alright, but I would like new documentaries about the entire saga. Right now, it seems most of the bonus features are about the OT, and I am hoping for more balance.
You too, right?

I am curious to know if the picture quality is going to be better or the same with the September retail release or the upcoming 3D conversions. As far as I know if you dont have 3D you can watch the movies with it off. If I am wrong I apologize. I am posting because if the quality is going to be better with the 3D releases I think I am going to hold off my purchase. Thanks for reading and responding, much appreciated!
John Knoll said the BDs and the 3-D releases of the films will be exactly the same, safe for the 3-D, so I would definitely wait until 2017 to get them.

Hope the prequels aren´t as underrepresented as it seems special-feature-wise ...
The only thing I've heard is that fans will get a closer look at some of the special features and the set as a whole at Comic-Con. But that's not until late July.

I agree with you on disc 9. I'm disappointed at three of the features included, especially considering they excluded the two documentaries, "Empire of Dreams" and "From Star Wars to Jedi". Ridiculous.

Then might as well wait for the 4D versions for the 50th anniversary in 2027.

Will this be an upgrade or you need them so you have a working sound system. I am more into the Audio part of it & the sound system is a must. Especially for this release on Blu !

Thank you for the replies in response to the difference of qualities between the upcoming blu-ray release and the yet to be announced 3D box sets which will inevitably be released.

Here´s a link to a recent article about the 3D-conversion and THX Media Director. It´s an interview with Rick Dean who also makes a statement about Lucas possibly making changes to the movies before releasing them on Blu-Ray: "Don't you think that George always does that? He's shown in the past that everytime he gets his movies back up, he changes something else."

Here´s hoping he is right! When we get improved movies (cgi Yoda in TPM, Alderaan in ANH, ...) and some deleted scenes I am more than happy!

Thanks Breather - I haven't watched this for almost a decade!

To me, this video justifies many of the changes made for the Special Edition, and i'm sure many would agree. Just like the original films, 1997 will have been a special year for many people who were introduced to the Star Wars trilogy for the very first time, and as I remember myself, it was an incredibly exciting period seeing the re-newed interest in these films.

This is were the OT vs SE argument loses it for me. If Lucas put both versions of the trilogy on disc then great, but I see no l reason why the SE's should not be considered. Both versions of the film have their fans, and I think one day they will be released on 'some' format. Sadly, I can't see that being Blu-Ray. Its plainly obvious that Lucas doesn't want to look back because the SE's are apparently his truest vision.

Maybe when... Someone from the boardroom will give everyone what they want!

Update: Doing some research I think the deal is expired and was a one-day Victoria day thing(?) That's what I get for being away on the long weekend

Maybe get an anamorphic 480p copy of the original unaltered, strings and all, by then, too.

He has soooo been caving on that, though. Gone are his "workprint" nonsense terms, he now refers to them as the "classic" editions.

That said, I stand with my theory that we WILL see the unaltered films on Blu. It's marketing genius - to attach them as "extras" on the inevitable single releases of each of the 3-D films.

It makes such perfect sense. People like me who don't give one crap about SW in 3D (or 3D at all) would buy them instantly if they included 1080p versions of the OT. It would be a way to force up sales - if they included the corresponding OT to each 3-D release, then just about everyone would double-dip - those who want 3D, and those that want to own the films we grew up with.

Don't know if this was posted before...
http://www.toplessrobot.com/2011/05/...lu-ray_box.php

Makes me wonder if they could have made the box set more comprehensive. I now have the sneaking suspicion that Lucas is holding back material for another edition in the not-so-distant future. Another reason why I'm considering getting only the original trilogy set.
