I'm not aware of any; a public movie theater with 8K movie's projection.

But that $300,000 8K Laser projector does exist.
* There could be some 8K "private" installations using that 8K Laser projector.

And there could be some huge 8K flat panel screens used in some movie theaters eventually.
You probably have read about it too; in 4K for now.

If Samsung and LG are installing/replacing some movie theaters with huge 4K HDR LCD screens; it's only a matter of time till 8K HDR huge flat panel screens replacing front projectors in some hi-end public movie theaters.
That, and Laser 8K HDR front projectors.
But flat panels are brighter, with more nits...I believe.
You can't escape the light ... unless absolute darkness, which is not the domain of any movie theater in the world. ...Perhaps inside a black hole, or in the abyss of the ocean, of deep space?

We got a MAJOR problem with 8k tvs. Not only are they selling us a resolution for a premium that literally nobody needs right now, but they are also selling energy hogs because of a resolution that we basically can't even use.

Europe just released their new energy standards today. The current Samsung 8k Q900 uses 330w. Under the new rules, that same TV will need to be around 113W by 2023! That's a 67% decrease in energy efficiency! And that's just to get a "G" rating, the lowest allowance. This. Is. Madness.

New TV energy labels: Before and after - FlatPanelsHD 3/5/21

Quote:
More or less all popular TV models are now rated G on EU's new, stricter energy scale that is designed to encourage TV makers to develop more energy-efficient displays.

Your TV is now rated G
OLED TV? 4K or 8K? LCD TV with zone dimming LED? LCD with edge-lit LED? Pretty much all TV models are now rated worst of the worst, energy class G, by EU.

FlatpanelsHD has reviewed the consequences of the new energy label for TVs that we introduced in the EU on March 1, 2021 as first reported earlier this week.

The new label includes energy consumption and scale for both SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) and HDR (High Dynamic Range), and now specifies kWh (kilowatt-hour) per 1000 hours – Watt can be deduced directly from the figure on the label (same number as kWh/1000h). You can calculate your expenses (per 1000 hours) by multiplying the kWh figure with your kWh price. If you are watching TV 5 hours per day on average, that would correspond to 1825 hours yearly.

Examples
If we use a 55-inch TV as an example: To jump from energy class G to F, the 55-inch TV would have to consume less than approx. 80W whereas energy class A would require it to consume less than approx. 30W. Before the changes took effect on March 1, 2021, a 55-inch TV was allowed to consume approx. 110W in energy class A.

After March 2023, EU will tighten its grip further and start to mandate maximum energy levels for TVs, which will affect all TVs but in particular 8K TVs that far exceed the limits that EU has proposed. FlatpanelsHD will be providing more coverage on the subject later.
Its stupid, the EU wants to severely roll back allowed energy usage on 4K and 8K TVs to the point that nothing that is sold currently is that economical.

All we all want is 4K HDR OLED large and very inexpensive (without faults and burn-in/free).
Everything else is cheap whisky. 8K OLED is OK too, @ down-to-earth prices.

What is the actual purpose of buying a 8K TV?

There is no 8K home video format, only DVDs, Blu Rays, and 4K (UHD).
No matter what TV service you have (Cable, Satellite, Streaming, Etc.) everything offered is standard, HD channels, and few channels in 4K; put no 8K whatsoever. Even Netflix shows 4K movies, but no 8K films.

So really, what is the point of buying a 8K TV?

Unless and until there is content to watch, it's burning money at his point.

Thanks for your answer. I agree, this is no purpose of buying an 8K TV, until such content exists.

YouTube 8K videos, 8K homemade family movies, National Geographic 8K IMAX documentaries, 8K Classical Rock concerts, the Olympics in 8K.

I mention the 83 incher as opposed to the 65 incher because some calibrators outright hate the most predominate type of HDR used for movies and episodics and seem to be on a longterm mission to discredit it - https://www.linkedin.com/posts/steve...754751488-2XDG ,

so, that leaves us with spatial resolution as the desired feature and getting your money’s worth with that and the recommendations made by other calibrators in the past, which I assume likely hasn’t changed - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcXcsN37v1I#t=32m40s

P.S.
b.t.w., I don’t think audience member Greg with his ‘algorithm’ took into account Vernier acuity, so he’s a little off

At least Panasonic's top of the line OLEDs are still 4K, and seeing the astronomic costs for LG's 8K OLED I don't think 8K will overtake the entire high-end model lines just yet. Just depends on manufacturing costs I guess.
