If a person is going to pay $6,000.00 -$8,000.00 or more for a TV, they are going to want to see a hell of a lot more than short videos, and those are only suppose to be demos and beside, how does anyone know that those are really in 8K? Anybody can upload short videos and images on the internet and labeled them as 8K, and nobody won't be able to tell the difference. If that's the case, people might as well keep the 4K TVs they already have. People want to have hundreds of full length movies, sport events, concerts etc to get their money's worth out of a 8K TV, which is not going to happen for a very long time, if not at all. 8K is far from being a reality and right now it's nothing but a marketing ploy. Certain people have been hoodwinked and duped out of thousands of dollars buying these 8K TVs, just so they can say: " I have one".

Most of the examples are submitted from 4K HDR cameras on Youtube. But there are some good ones if you look around online.

A example from NIPPON WANDERING TV

3840x2160@30 bt2020

Their stores in Japan are so full of tech toys and gadgets, while here your lucky to find any store that carries anything.

4K vs 8K: What’s the Outlook for Broadcasters in 2021?
Explore the state of the 4K and 8K industries, from technology adoption, to solutions broadcasters should consider to stay ahead of the curve.

https://www.harmonicinc.com/insights...adcasters-2021

Quote:
Looking Towards the Future with 4K and 8K

Considering that 4K is just beginning to solidify itself as a mainstream technology, many broadcasters are logically still investing in the UHD-1 realm. As more broadcasters continue to deliver content in 4K and mainstream events like the upcoming Olympics and international soccer championships will likely bolster adoption, 8K adoption will likely remain a technology of the near future rather than one that is widely adopted today.

However, the ability to display video at 120 frames per second with 8K means that sports networks, in particular, stand to benefit most from early adoption. We estimate that after 2024 8K technology will mature enough to benefit from the arrival of new codecs, cost reduction of electronics on the consumer side, and increased availability of resources to deploy 8K. Until then, upconversion technology at the headend or TV manufacturer side is the best short-term solution.

Red Releases V-Raptor 8K VV - ASCmag 9/1/21

Quote:
The camera is the first entry in the next-generation DSMC3 platform. A white ST version is available now; a black version will be released later this year.

Red Digital Cinema has unveiled the V-Raptor 8K VV camera, its first entry in the next-generation DSMC3 platform. The camera features the highest dynamic range, fastest cinema-quality sensor scan time, cleanest shadows and highest frame rates of any camera in Red’s lineup.

Priced at $24,500, a white ST version of the camera is now available for purchase on the company’s website and from its authorized premium dealers. A black version will be available before the end of the year.

Red also announced it will release an XL camera body in the first half of 2022 that will be ideally suited for studio configurations and high-end productions.

The V-Raptor features a multi-format 8K sensor (40.96mm x 21.60mm) with the ability to shoot 8K large format or 6K Super 35. This in-camera option allows users to leverage any of large-format or S35 lenses with the push of a button and deliver at over 4K resolution. The new camera exceeds previous sensor capabilities, presenting users with the option to capture 8K full sensor at up to 120 fps (150 fps at 2.4:1), 6K at up to 160 fps (200 fps at 2.4:1) and 2K (2.4:1) at 600 fps while still capturing more than 17 stops of dynamic range.

“V-Raptor reflects the ferocity of our team, who have spent the last two years forced apart,” says Jarred Land, president, Red Digital Cinema. “Through everything, we found a way to work together better than ever before, fueled by the incredible passion and support of our community of filmmakers. This camera takes an impressive array of silicon and mashes it together with pieces of the heart and soul of every Red camera that has come before it.”

Canon EOS R5 Overheating Test: Passed! (More Than 1.5 Hours of 8K RAW Recording Time) - Y.M.Cinima - 8/29/21

Quote:
Thanks to Atomos, the Canon EOS R5 has been saved from the ‘overheating stain’. A test performed by ProAV showed s continues shooting of the R5 in 8K RAW (ProRes RAW), for more than 90 minutes, without any temp’ warning. However, you will need to buy the Ninja V+ for that privilege, which costs 40% of the camera itself. Does it worth investing $1,500 more on a camera that costs $3,900 in order to be able to shoot unconstrained 8K videos?

Ninja V+ absorbs all the heat

The Canon EOS R5 1.4 and Atomos OS 10.68 firmware updates allow the R5 to shoot 8K ProRes RAW straight to the Ninja V+ 8K recorder vis HDMI. That means, the Ninja V+ will absorb all the heat generated by the 8K RAW recording, instead of been accumulated by the R5 which will lead to a shutdown. Atomos emphasized that the Ninja V+’s screen and enclosure will get very warm during the 8K & 5K RAW recording. However, Atomos explained that this is completely normal and expected behavior. The Ninja V+ has various safety features designed to manage the thermal performance of the unit. Indeed, the heat management of the Ninja V+ is way better than implemented in the EOS R5. The Ninja V+ has vents, as opposed to the Canon EOS R5 that is sealed.

Thats a more reasonable solution for DIY 8K video producers.

This and the previous examples shows that the 8K filmmaking with commercial and consumer products is still getting better and less expensive.

65-inch 8K TVs are leading the pack, but should people buy bigger?

Quote:
8K TVs are certainly growing in popularity, and it’s possibly no surprise that 65-inch 8K TVs are proving the most popular among them. That’s what we’re seeing in a new 8K TV broadcast from analysts at DSCC, who have predicted exponential growth in 8K resolution screens over the next five years.

The number of 8K TVs annually shipped is expected to double between 2021 and 2022, from over 500,000 to around 1,400,000 units worldwide – but that increase should continue in consecutive years, with over two million units in 2023 and three million units in 2024.

65-inch TVs seem the most popular option for 8K panels in 2021, and DSCC predicts that will hold firm in the coming years – and there’s good reason for that. 8K resolution offers four times the amount of detail as the best 4K TVs, but it’s only really at a 65-inch size that the additional detail is particularly visible.

It seems like a waste to buy an 8K set unless you're going for a big screen size given the high premium. I'm surprised that the most popular screen size is the same for 4K and 8K TVs.

Lol at the last comment you quoted there about 65" being the minimum size to be able to see the difference with 8K resolution, like there's loads of 8K content for people (outside of Japan ) to actually watch apart from YouTube demo shite or stuff they've shot themselves.

Most people aren't buying 8K sets because they're 8K, they're buying them because they're the default premium sets at larger screen sizes for several brands. It happened with 4K vs 1080p, same thing will happen/is happening here. Hell, I bought my first 4K TV eight years ago (!) and it had nothing to do with the actual 4K aspect of it.
