youtube streams AV1 at any resolution even 240p. It's based on hit counter views then.

That's great. FFMPEG will decode EVC and x267 will encode EVC. Why would China have a monopoly on open source source code? They don't!

Maybe I'm old, but I don't have anyone who cares about 8k in the real world. Maybe ageism. Instagram won't get more likes with 8k tv or players or discs or streams That's fact! Instagram users didn't care about my 4k TV this year. They only care about 4k Playstation 5 I believe. They want their Playstation 5 Pro in 8k to play 8k games and that's it!

Will 8K TV's be needed as 4K TV's were? I know TV's will be bigger and most if not all will be able to do 12 bits instead of 10 bits. Will HDMI 2.1 will be a bigger thing than TV's themselves? Are projectors where it's at for 8K?

Denon Unveils Its First 8K Receivers For The Next Home Cinema Revolution - Forbes 6/4/20

Quote:
Today, Denon is celebrating an incredible 110 years in the business of producing high-quality audio equipment. To mark this amazing milestone, the company is unveiling its first 8K-ready AV Receivers destined the home theater and gaming markets.

The introduction of 8K is a new and exciting chapter of Denon’s home theater line-up. Although 8K content maybe a bit thin on the ground right now, it’s clear that there will be more content in the future and that anyone thinking of investing in a home cinema should have at least one eye on the future to ensure there set-up can grow with the new hi-res content that’s coming our way.

The new X-Series AVRs offer a suite of new features that home theater enthusiasts, music lovers, and gamers can use straight away. Getting the home theater ready for future 8K content includes standards like eARC and HDR10+, and handling 4k/120kHz gaming with VRR, QFT, QMS, and ALLM right now are the key criteria in the new line up of Denon AVRs.

The new Denon X-Series AV amplifiers and receivers are aimed at the high-end of home theatre and include some of the latest HDMI technologies. These include superb picture quality and immersive audio decoding capabilities making it easier to enjoy the cinema experience at home. The new receivers have a dedicated “8K” HDMI 2.1 input enabling 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz video pass-through. There’s support for the new HDR format, including HDR10+ and Dynamic HDR. Also on board is a new HDMI feature called Quick Media Switching (QMS), which enables a source to instantly switch the resolution or frame rate to eliminate screen blackout. For color, clarity, and contrast the latest X-Series models still support HDR10, HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma), and Dolby Vision, as well as 4:4:4 Pure Color subsampling and BT.2020 pass-through

Pricing and availability: The new X-Series AV receivers will be available at authorized Denon retailers at the below dates.

AVR-X2700H (€729 / £599 / $849)
AVC-X3700H (€1,099 / £999 / $1,199) (August)
AVC-X4700H (€1,699 / £1,399 / $1,699) (July)
AVC-X6700H (€2799 / £2,299 / $2,499) (July)
Quote:
The range’s flagship AVC-X6700H receiver can support 11 channels of amplification with 13.2 channel processing, the AVC-X4700H and the AVC-X3700H can each handle up to 9 channels of amplification and 11.2 channel processing. The AVR-X2700H supports up to 7 channels of amplification. The Auro-3D engine is supported by the AVC-X6700H and the AVC-X4700H models. IMAX Enhanced decoding is supported by both receivers as well as the AVC-X3700H.

Denon now also has a new “Pre-Amplifier” mode for the AVC-X3700H, AVC-X4700H, and AVC-X6700H, previously found on Denon’s flagship AVC-X8500H. Pre-Amplifier mode provides a clear signal path and more tolerance in clipping levels by disconnecting internal amplifiers when the receiver is being used as an AV processor and all speakers are powered using external amplifiers.

I get the pricing, but it is unclear whether Auro3D needs to be activated at an additional cost or the receivers will already come with Auro3D enabled.

From what I'm told Auro3D is included.

Our first allocation of X4700H and X6700H are scheduled to arrive next week. I'm taking the X6700H home!

Auro3D processing has been "Free of Charge" enabled out of the box, a number of years since 2017 I believe on D+M's AVR products

OIC. I guess the Marantz counterpart is the one that’s not enabled. All the 8805 I calibrated in the past year require additional download. I haven’t calibrated any Denon receivers in the last 3 years.

Sorry I should have clarified the 2018 Denon X8500H & Marantz AV8805 were offered a free software update shortly after they were released in May 2018 because they offered a newer variant basically Auro3D 13.1 processing or StormAudio like to call Auro 3D V2 which now offers support for the Surround Back channels.

Phillip Jones from Sounds United - Denon speaking, goes on for 1:12:46
Check out the part concerning 40 Gbps being the real max using HDMI 2.1 instead of 48 Gbps. Start at about 51 min time point.

As anything but a music upmixer Auro3D is pretty much useless.

As for the touted "8K" capability, are there any devices that can actually output 8K on the drawing boards? Never mind the receiver has only a single HDMI input (out of what, 8?) that can pass the signal. I'm what you would classify as an early adopter of tech but this is pretty much a nothingburger. I won't be upgrading my current Denon anytime soon (a 6300) unless it breaks (knock wood it doesn't).

If the x6700h does analog up scaling from 480i/576i to 8k@60/50, same for HDMI to HDMI scaling up to 8k@60/50. That suggests you should see someone out there pitching 8k upscaling UHD players easily. You know there were rumors a future Apple TV would scale to 8k. This is all repetition to what’s built into a 8k TV, but so what’s else is old.

They would not design a 8K passthrough AVR, if that wasn't eventually coming wouldn't they? IFA Berlin is in Sept. Likely some prototypes.

What is the use of 8K when 69% of households don’t even have 4K?

If your TV goes bad, it’s almost a certainty you would be buying a UDTV. Technology acceptance doesn’t hit a wall just because something is new and expensive. When 4K TV arrived in 2012 people had the same comments. We had no idea it would take 4 years for UHD BD’s to arrive.

Denon is leading the way again...now towards 8K BR players.
What if Denon would come up with their own 8K BR player? ...Back to the BR market. Would that be some' special ...

We gotta move forward ...
