Default A Mexican Physicist Solved a 2,000-Year Old Problem...

From Gizmodo:

https://gizmodo.com/a-mexican-physic...tha-1837031984

Quote:
A Mexican Physicist Solved a 2,000-Year Old Problem That Will Lead to Cheaper, Sharper Lenses
It’s a problem that plagues even the priciest of lenses, manufactured to the most exacting specifications: the center of the frame might be razor-sharp, but the corners and edges always look a little soft. It’s a problem that’s existed for thousands of years with optical devices, and one that was assumed to be unsolvable until a Mexican physicist developed a mind-melting formula that could revolutionize how lenses are manufactured.
...
But that’s all going to change thanks to Rafael G. González-Acuña, a doctoral student at Mexico’s Tecnológico de Monterrey. After months of work, he managed to come up with a mind-melting equation that provides an analytical solution for counteracting spherical aberration, which had been previously formulated back in 1949 as the Wasserman-Wolf problem which stumped scientists for decades.
Here's hoping this improves lenses in phone cameras, SLR's, telescopes, pro movie optics, etc. How long before this becomes commercialized would be anyone's guess.

However, it seems since I took several days leave from posting, the numbers and traffic in the Technology forum have significantly slipped. I checked in a little earlier today and I saw there were only 31 viewers for the whole subforum!

Here, something not revealed in the clip of the funeral scene at Rosecrans in the Top Gun: Maverick trailer – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post16675368

not only the Marines’ salute, but there was also a tribute in the sky as seen from another angle –

close up of the flyover jet –

and what do some current Blue Angels do for fun when they’re not in the cockpit?

Nice jet, all Blu-ray forum members should have one. They can pick their own color and number.
Blue is fine by me, and I prefer number 4 ... like the "A" from 4dvengers 4

fortunately, TG: M's theatrical run in 2020 shouldn’t precipitate anything like this nuisance as with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood….https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jwvj4Mdizw#t=1m26s

b.t.w, the 4K DCP of OUaTiH looks far better than the 35mm version

It's best. Universal Pictures need better film writers, with intelligent heads on their shoulders; people with respect.

And then, the same with some TV broadcasters, and some heavy warfare games for kids, and tweets from Twitter, and what they are selling @ Walmart stores, and all the bull we are submitted to every single day on social medias and on TV.
We are becoming totally blind of the mountain of blood and lies and hatred over our heads and polluting our lives. It's a disease that is spreading exponentially and without a foreseeable cure.

Good thing we have HDR TVs to watch our favorite shows...Gone With the Wind, and Animal Kingdom.

I never know if you are being serious or not but art should not be filtered or censored. Life is not all champagne and candy, why would film or tv be like that?

The film has rightly been pulled for now, but it will be released in the future imo.

People are responsible for their actions.

I sure was serious, as I am reflecting on films and more.

You just mentioned art and filtering and censorship; it's all a fine balance that all of us we have to evaluate in a fair perspective for our children and the future generations to come.
I am reflecting ...

Yes it's possible that after a certain time the film might be back for a general population presentation.
And there are many other films that are much more insensitive and projecting more desperation ...
I am reflecting ...

You just said it; people are responsible for their actions, and inactions as well ... IMHO.

* Since the new Blu-ray standards have been established ... 4K, HDR, Atmos, Dolby Vision, etc., the waters are still chaotic. Eg.; the first UHD 4K TVs were not created all equal, some couldn't do HDR.
Even today with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision and tone mapping, ... we are divided between TV manufacturers, Blu-ray player manufacturers, Blu-ray 4K UHD disc manufacturers, HDMI, AV receivers & SSP manufacturers, ...sync communication between HDR devices and software and Hollywood movie professionals (technicians, computer graphic workers, cineastes, film reproduction for the theaters and for the general public homes).

I don't need to identify the main issues as I'm sure you are already aware of several.
We've just got the first ever release of a 4K UHD HDR evaluation and video calibration disc just few weeks ago.
And 4K UHD HDR has been with us for how many years now...three and half years?

What a load of bull. It’s a decade old argument that has Zero foundation. Kids have been playing with soldiers and buying toy guns decades before I was born.
It’s a cop out in my opinion.

You can’t have sugar and flowers in every film. People would be bored to tears. Film needs to challenge the viewer and if it has to go dark to get there, so be it.

As for gaming, those war games exist in every country, yet only America has such huge issues with shootings. I wonder why?

Film and games are always the scapegoat. Without any foundation to back it up.

Anyway, I feel too strongly about this to get into a discussion again. Going to call it there.
