Re: the Raimi SPIDERMAN films, I saw SPIDERMAN 2 in 15/70 IMAX DMR blow-up at the huge IMAX screen in Lincoln Center in NYC that summer, and it wasn't presented "open matte". It was letterboxed to the 'Scope ratio.

Evangelion:3.333 You Can (Not) Redo. came out as an IMAX Enhanced UHD (or at least the UHD went through the IMAX DMR process but not the standard Blu-ray) in 2021.
Evangelion:3.0+1.11 Thrice Upon a Time will also be IMAX Enhanced (or have IMAX DMR) for its UHD release this March.

Still, this is the first time we're getting more IMAX Enhanced discs outside of Japan and something that's not Evangelion.

I'm hoping that the GKIDS 4K releases of the Rebuild of Evangelion films (if they even happen) would still be IMAX Enhanced.
Maybe with the Amazon Studios English dubs remastered (and partially rerecorded), in 6.1 for the first two films and for IMAX standards for the latter two films. The dubs on Prime Video have poor sound quality, especially compared to the phenomenal sounding Neon Genesis dubs from Netflix, the much older FUNimation dubs, or even the Platinum ADV dubs of the Neon Genesis series.
Still better than the Manga dubs of the Neon Genesis movies and the Perfect Collection/VHS ADV dubs of the series.

I'm hoping for GKIDS Collector's Editions of all four films.
Ideally, the discs for each film would be:
You Are (Not) Alone.:
Disc 1: Film + Bonus Blu-ray: 1.11 (Japanese: DTS-HD MA 6.1, English [Amazon]: DTS-HD MA 6.1, English [FUNimation]: DTS-HD MA 6.1)
Disc 2: Bonus Blu-ray: 1.01 (Japanese: DTS-HD MA 6.1, English [FUNimation]: DTS-HD MA 6.1)
Disc 3: Soundtrack CD

You Can (Not) Advance.:
Disc 1: Film + Bonus Blu-ray: 2.22 (Japanese: DTS-HD MA 6.1, English [Amazon]: DTS-HD MA 6.1, English [FUNimation]: DTS-HD MA 6.1)
Disc 2: Soundtrack CD

You Can (Not) Redo.:
Disc 1: Film IMAX 4K Ultra HD: 3.333 (Japanese: IMAX DTS-HD MA 5.1, English [Amazon]: IMAX DTS-HD MA 5.1)
Disc 2: Film + Bonus Blu-ray: 3.333 (Japanese: IMAX DTS-HD MA 5.1, English [Amazon]: IMAX DTS-HD MA 5.1)
Disc 3: Bonus Blu-ray: 3.33 + Giant Warrior Appears in Tokyo short film (Japanese: DTS-HD MA 5.1, English [Amazon]: DTS-HD MA 5.1, English [FUNimation Home Video]: DTS-HD MA 5.1, English [FUNimation Theatrical]: DTS-HD MA 5.1)
Disc 4: Soundtrack CD

Thrice Upon a Time:
Disc 1: Film IMAX 4K Ultra HD: 3.0+1.11 (Japanese: IMAX DTS-HD MA 5.1, English [Amazon]: IMAX DTS-HD MA 5.1)
Disc 2: Film + Bonus Blu-ray: 3.0+1.11 (Japanese: IMAX DTS-HD MA 5.1, English [Amazon]: IMAX DTS-HD MA 5.1)
Disc 3: Bonus Blu-ray: 3.0+1.01 (Japanese: DTS-HD MA 5.1, English [Amazon]: DTS-HD MA 5.1) + Evangelion:3.0(-46h) short film
Disc 4: Soundtrack CD 1
Disc 5: Soundtrack CD 2

They released Top Gun on IMAX Enhanced on streaming a few years ago and it was probably open matte 16:9.
However, the 2013 IMAX 3D release was cropped to CinemaScope.

Oh I searched "IMAX Enhanced" in the database and those didn't come up. Maybe the titles could be updated.

They are tagged IMAX Enhanced, but you have to set the country to either All Countries or Japan.
These discs are Japan-only for now. Also, there would be no English dub or subtitles for the early releases in Japan.
Wait and pray for GKIDS to release all the Rebuild films on Blu-ray in the US, with IMAX 4K versions of 3.333 and 3.0+1.11.

Ah I see what the problem is now. I have it set to global but the list of US IMAX Enhanced releases basically fills up the search results so the Japanese ones don't show up. I have to set it to Japan and search then, or search by name.

I know the MCU movies on Disney+ have a tad bit more DNR on the IMAX Enhanced streams because they underwent IMAX DMR.

There are, however, some filmmakers who prefer not having DMR on their films even for an IMAX release, such as Roger Deakins (Skyfall, Blade Runner 2049, 1917).
If khara made the film with an IMAX spec in mind, then maybe the disc still has IMAX DMR just like the Nolan films. Or maybe they went with the Deakins approach and bypassed IMAX DMR even for the IMAX release.

Even animated films get DMR passes, such as Makoto Shinkai's films.

Sony, however, is planning on making new IMAX Enhanced discs this year, including an IMAX Enhanced box set.
https://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/1468073.html

They will apparently release the following films in IMAX Enhanced:
- Gran Turismo
- Madame Web
- Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
- Equalizer 3
- Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody

Hoping for IMAX Enhanced re-releases of the MCU Spider-Man films, Into the Spider-Verse, The Amazing Spider-Man films, maybe the Sam Raimi Trilogy (in open matte), and of course: Blade Runner 2049.
Hmmm. Note that the industry people quoted at that link are Sony’s SVP of DIGITAL sales and distribution and IMAX’s SVP of STREAMING content. Disc is merely speculated on by the article’s author, this looks like streaming only to me as I can’t see Sony doing such a drastic course correction away from Dolbys Vision and Atmos on disc. They tried IE on disc, it failed.

"Cropped" really isn't the right word here, since TOP GUN was composed for that aspect ratio. Matted? Sure, but it's not "cropped" in the sense that anything that was meant to be seen is lost.

Agreed - but the framing is hella tight.

I think given the time they've shot Top Gun - they've even had 1.33 framing for home video in their head

Having these IE titles on places like Itunes is the right business call. Yeah, it likely kills Bravia Core, but that struck me as nothing more than a experiment anyway

Aye, it's not much different from that 4K streaming box thingy that they provided when they first released their 4K TVs, remember that? They're always looking to provide a bespoke 4K service to Sony customers but as it's perpetually doomed to have a tiny user base (Sony TVs having such a small market share) then Sony lose interest after a while.

Probably trying to make low bitrate DTS sound good. Which it doesn't.

Yeah, it was called ULTRA and you would receive 4 complimentary 4K movies after buying one of Sony's 4K Android TVs and signing up to the service.

Launched in 2016 and closed 3 years later in 2019. The $30 per title price was ridiculous.

Those of us with decent receivers/amps-preamps don't have an issue with the Atmos mixes.

I'd love to know what processor you have that fixes the lack of dynamics and low end response in most of Disney's mixes

Emotiva XPA Gen3 pre-amp and Onkyo Rz-50 receiver. Id consider those "decent".

Being able to make things "loud" doesnt mean good. Lack of dynamics and low end is an ongoing problem. I shouldnt have to change my calibrated settings for Disney movies
