^^Nitpicking here, but all the OLEDs above 70" are at 77" (they come from the same LGD manufacturing facility).

That's set to change completely in 2019 models. Not only will there be few other manufacturers producing OLED tv panels by then, but they'll be inkjet RGB OLED panels, which will bring about 88-inch and 98-inch OLED tvs. Native RGB OLED is a major upgrade over LG's current WOLED architecture. However, inkjet produced panels aren't quite as high quality as vacuum evaporation based OLED panels. RGB is such a major upgrade though, so expect dramatic improvements in brightness and color quality, then expect TADF emitters by 2020-2021 models which will again be a dramatic change. Apart from HDR and 4K resolution, LG OLED hasn't changed much in the last 5 years, and won't change much next year, but man is 2019 set to blow away everything we've seen so far.

What this means for the coexistence of several such formats will be shown. However, I look calmly at such a scenario. Dolby Vision is an entertainment experience that starts with Dolby Cinema"

"One advantage of DolbyVision is that movies created today in DolbyVision can also benefit from improved displays in 3 or 5 years."

"We have mastered some of the classics from the 40's in Dolby Vision, and the results are breathtaking."

As I mentioned somewhere in the 4K Movies Releases thread, notably days prior to the official SMPTE March 2016 committee meeting report being published for public consumption, since Blu-ray.com forum membership like to stay cutting edge with such behind the scenes info ,

ST 2094-10 Application #1 (Dolby’s dynamic range approach) had just recently passed FCD ballot and was in the process of comment resolution (keeping in mind when all comments are resolved the Technology Committee shall conduct a Consensus Vote to elevate the document to Draft Publication). So, I think It’s more accurate to say that Dolby’s dynamic range approach has been adopted by SMPTE for more like very close to one year.

What classics from the 1940's have actually been mastered in Dolby Vision, I wonder. Perhaps Casablanca, dare I dream?

The problems of people who want to see Casablanca on UHD Blu-ray with a Dolby Vision encode don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world.

Sigh, I was only talking about this year (and the only greater than 65" model you can buy now, the 2016 G6) and the near future. Anyhow, all that inkjet speculation is premature. They *may* be ready by 2019 to print the OLED material (pilot production doesn't count as mass manufacturing ready), and the blue lifetime issue may be solved. Both of those have to happen for any of that to be true by 2019. History is replete with techs that almost made it (SED) but couldn't quite pass the finish line.

It's not at all premature speculation, we are already far beyond that. There are now no less than four manufacturers that will be mass producing inkjet OLED panels in 2019. LG is starting test production with RGB printed OLED right now, for planned mass production in 2019. They don't make these types of plans to simply not go through with them, this has been many years in the making.

JOLED recently released their first 4K inkjet RGB OLED medical monitors, they started to ship samples in April, with promises of larger screen consumer monitors forthcoming. 2019 is when JOLED is going into mass production too. It's going to be a wild year for OLED, 2018 models are just a stop-gap. WOLED is on it's last legs. LG, JOLED, and a few Chinese manufactures that include TCL, BOE, and ChinaStar which is majority owned by TCL, are already committed to big screen tvs made of inkjet RGB OLED in 2019. LG's new P10 fab is now set to only produce OLED, it's not even going to make any LCD panels on the side anymore, as was originally planned. These companies are going to be mass producing inkjet OLED panels in 2019, and by 2020-2021 Soluble TADF emitters will likely be ready too, so we'll have 8K OLED.

Of course it is...press releases tend to be overly flowery and optimistic. I admit to having been doubtful WOLED was coming in 2013, but LGD proved me wrong. That could happen again...but I need verification, and there will need to be a fully scalable prototype at CES 2018 for any of the above to amount to anything.

Too bad it doesn't mention Dolby Vision ANYWHERE on the packaging or on the back. Though I think a Dolby Vision sticker might be put on by employees at best buy.

Citizen Kane seems like a great choice with its pioneering use of lighting and shadow. And (like Casablanca) it is owned by WB, who have at least done Dolby Vision encodes for VUDU, so seems like a possible one as well.
