On my third attempt to see this now. As I posted before, my local IMAX is not playing it so I drove to my son's town and we attempted to watch it in Dolby 3D. The center channel speaker was dead for previews and first 10 minutes before they fixed it. Despite the fix, the theater decided to restart the movie about 30 minutes into it. The first 20 minutes went fine until audio dropped again. The whole theater walked out for refunds and we then drove across town, now waiting for Real 3D to start.

I will probably be ripped apart for this but, I found this movie quite boring to be honest. Especially for an origin story. It just seemed very rushed and not well thought out. Everyone is raving about the special effects and how the movie is "visually stunning" but many parts were just rip offs of Inception. And about 95% of the humor in the movie felt stale and extremely forced. overall I give this a 1.5/5

Doctor Strange is probably the special effects movie of 2016, and the 3D reminds me a lot of Pacific Rim's effective 3D. A nice range of medium to strong 3D layering, and tons of special effects 3D shots with strong 3D layering to enjoy. But yeah, not too many pop outs. The movie was interesting and generally fun, though the story has a few flaws. 4/5 for entertainment value.

Previews:
The Great Wall 3D: Medium to strong 3D layers
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 3D: Medium to strong 3D.
The other previews were of 3D movies, but only show in 2D for whatever reason.

Theater: Imax 3D, middle row seat, great projection of the 3D
Doctor Strange 3D:
3D Creativity: 8/10
3D Layering: 9/10 Strong 3D layering during the plentiful Effects scenes
3D Pop Out Count: 2/10 Hardly any pop outs
3D Total: 9/10. While it's equally balanced out with medium 3D shots in the real world, the strong effects shots during the alternate zone take up a big portion of the film and show 3D off in a unique, exciting way.

I don't recall the way the buildings broke and moved in this movie to be like that in Inception. Let's be real, the only movie this film totally stole it's schtick from was Ghost Dad...and maybe the Frighteners.

They weren't at all really.

The Inception comparison is unoriginal, tired and not really accurate.

Just got back from the theater and really liked it. The way he wins in the end was one of the most unique ways I've seen someone overcome or beat the antagonist.

Agreed.

The way he beat him was...dare I say...Sherlock-ian in it's cleverness?

I'll see myself out....

How is it not accurate, please explain?

People have been throwing that out since the first trailer. Inception had one little scene where a building starts to folder over. Doctor Strange had waaaay more going on than that. It was on a level to where the Inception comparison is silly as hell. As I said, it's and old and tired complaint we've been hearing since the first trailer from people who are thinking they are clever repeating it over and over again.

After watching it this afternoon, I agree. Saying it is just dropping off Inception is like saying a Bugatti Veyron is just a Ford Model A knock off.

A really good film... but I had some reservations. Namely his power level. This characters only limits are those of his imagination. In the source material he one of the most power characters in the Marvel universe. What do we get: teleportation that requires a mood ring? The objects having more power than him? Maybe they are doing a slow build. We needed more scenes like the one when he initially meets the Ancient One.

I had a chance to compare Dolby 3D vs Real D 3D and the Real presented better depth and brightness it seems. I'm pissed I won't be able to see the IMAX but I really enjoyed this movie as I do all the Marvel flicks. I love seeing the Marvel Universe unfold on the big screen. I will never get burned out on superhero films!

just got back from seeing it.......thought it was great!! solid 4/5 from me.

and totally don't understand the "inception rip off" comments. there as one scene in Inception that I remember.....if anything, this movie took that idea and expanded on it 100x over.

and really liked the fight scene
[Show spoiler]where everything was in reverse
. really really unique idea.

Marvel should never have used those scenes in the advertisements for the movie, whether they are used heavily in the film or not, it's what people are going to notice most.

They still look exactly nothing like inception.

Just saw it in Laser IMAX 3D, don't have much to say other than that I really enjoyed it. Hit the familiar beats but did it in its own way. Rooting hard for this to win the VFX Oscar. 3.5/4 stars for me.

3.5 for me, but I'll round up to a 4. It was missing some elements for me that would have made it really memorable. But I did enjoy it, and some aspects I really enjoyed.

easy 5/5. This ranks right up there with Guardians and Avengers for me.

Also, to all those saying that the MCU is "dead" after Infinity Wars. HA! HAHAHAHAHAHA! HAHAHA! HAHAHA! AHHAHAHAHAHAH!H!HAHAHAHAH
