saw it tonight with my Daughter and we loved it. I voted 4/5 stars. it did everything it should have and then some. it took some pages right out of the comics and also from the marvel animated Dr. Strange movie too! jokes were on point, just enough of the humor too and just enough of the serious stuff too.

of course, I loved the first and second post credits scenes too! I can't wait to see Stranges roll in the Infinity Wars Saga.

then after the movie was over, we went and had this for dinner!

Conveyor Sushi and Lord was it good!

I went in with reservations since I thought Civil War was average and the MCU was beginning to wear thin on me, but was blown away. I loved the pacing, action, visuals, Strange's story as well as most of the casting. McAdams was the only one I didn't care for. Agree with many others who have said that the Inception rip off comment is ridiculous. This movie has been rolling around in my head for hours now and I can't wait to see it again.

Solid 4.5/5 for me and rounded up in the poll.

[Show spoiler]Did anyone else think that it was Loki posing as Thor in the mid credit scene? Sorry if it's been mentioned before, but I didn't go through and read through anyone's spoilers.

Just saw it today in IMAX 3D.

Definitely my best IMAX 3D experience this entire year. Better 3D than Batman V Super and Suicide Squad.

Also, this effortlessly blows Captain America: Civil War away as the MCU film of 2016 to watch (sorry, but I wasn't terribly impressed with Civil War. Really was getting bored of the main MCU series of films recently). I'll even say it ranks right up there with Daredevil Season 1 and Guardians of the Galaxy as the best MCU entry to date.

Excellent directing on Scott Derrickson's part (way, way better than those grossly overpraised directing work of the Russo Brothers), solid score from Michael Giacchino (really dug the hell out of that Goblin sounding prog rock tune that played during the end credits, though apparently that wasn't a Giacchino piece), lovely use of Pink Floyd in a pivotal sequence, 2nd best use of 3D in a movie this year (after "Kubo and the Two Strings", of course) and a performance that will surely bless Benedict Cumberbatch with "household name" status. Tilda Swinton also again turned in a damn good performance as usual.

Sadly, I think Mads Mikkelsen was slightly underutilized (he should've been Dormammu himself as opposed to an original character, IMO), but he did make the best of that minor case of miscasting. However, I am super curious to see what will become of Chiwetel Ejiofor's character from hereon out.
[Show spoiler]Easily my favorite heel turn in a superhero film to date. None of that "Ha Ha! I'm evil now for the lulz!" bullcrap like with Butterfly Lady in X-Men: First Class.

Last but not least, that Thor cameo was a total delight. Just wish Chris Hemsworth will finally be given a Thor film worthy of him, though Thor: The Dark World was a good start, flawed as it was (Sorry, I thought the first Thor was a complete and utter bore. At least The Dark World did not make me nearly fall asleep from boredom).

Anyhow, I give Mister Doctor a very strong 4/5. Super eager to pre-order the Best Buy Steelbook now.

Enjoyed the hell out of this!

This is the one Marvel film that initially I had ZERO desire to see, simply because of the character. I've never been a fan of the magic wielding hero. But Marvel has pulled it off once again with the sure-fire casting of Cumberbatch.

By grounding an other-worldly character and firmly planting the audience in his shoes, we are able to understand his journey, and more importantly, care. The visual effects are a massive high-point for this picture as well, and benefit from a 3D viewing.

Not only do I care, but I eagerly want to see Strange pop up in future MCU films!

4/5

I was wondering why Bratt only had one scene. Then the

I'm only just now realizing how overcast Rachel McAdams was. They must have bigger plans for that character, but there was really no reason to get somebody that big to play that part.

I can't say I've seen that around as a theory, what makes you think that?

[Show spoiler]As per Ragnarok shooting pictures, we know Loki and Thor are looking for Stephen Strange as Thor was photographed holding a card with 177A Bleecker Street on it, so we know they go there together. So I figured Loki's there with Thor and Strange is only talking with Thor while Loki waits outside or something.

I've gotta say that it makes me hopeful we'll see Loki and Strange interact though, I love the thought of magic users coming across each other. For that reason I look forward to Wanda meeting up with those two as well. I don't think Strange actually being in Ragnarok is a guarantee, but it sure would be awesome.

I did not care for this film, but I must agree. The Inception comparisons are pretty shallow and ignore fine art that precede both films. It reminds me of Escher and Islamic patterns.

[Show spoiler]Just the fact that Loki has used his illusions to look like someone else in the past. I'd forgotten about the picture you spoke of, so maybe I just had a bit of foolish hope that they'd meet up.

After an injury sustained during a car crash threatens to end his illustrious career, renowned neurosurgeon Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) turns eastward after Western medicine fails to heal him. At a Nepalese monastery, he becomes a student of the Ancient One (a captivating Tilda Swinton), an immortal sage who reveals to him an infinite system of universes and teaches him to bend space and time to his will. After one of the Ancient One's former protégés (Mads Mikkelsen) leaves the fold to embrace an otherworldly and malevolent entity, Strange must decide whether to use his newly gained power to help people other than himself. The fourteenth film in the overarching Marvel Cinematic Universe, following Captain America: Civil War and leading into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Doctor Strange is not free of the brand's predictable problems—Rachel McAdams is squandered as a particularly extraneous love interest, the intensely magnetic Mikkelsen is squandered even worse as a disposable antagonist, and the egoist-to-hero origin-story arc registers as Iron Man lite—but the magical-monastic context, even if it is more decorative than intrinsic, is enticing and rejuvenating. It allows for psychedelic, rainbow-colored, geometry-manipulating action sequences which are enthralling by any measure and truly novel for the superhero sub-genre. And Cumberbatch, with a just-right blend of anger, charisma, pomposity, and sly humor, is an engaging lead who should be a valuable addition to the expanded Avengers roster.

I edited for safety, but
[Show spoiler]the original post never mentioned it as a spoiler for the mid-credits scene, so there's not necessarily any connection between the two things. The MCU is interconnected so I could easily be talking about Ragnarok in general without people connecting it to Thor making an appearance in this. I put it out of the brackets in case people didn't want to be spoiled for Ragnarok shooting pictures.

But you gotta edit your post if you don't want it to be visible since my reference is now gone.

[Show spoiler]Well like I said, Loki and Thor were both together when looking for the Sanctum, so I think there's still a chance of that happening in Ragnarok, if Strange does actually make an appearance, that is. But with the Ant-man post credits scene being lifted from Civil War, maybe this is as well and we will see Strange. I hope so, at least.
