I think Cumberbatch was the best option for play Dr. Strange, so it's great news!

I don't care if I'm the only one - I cannot stand Benedict Cumberbatch in anything. I'll watch Doctor Strange because it's Marvel, but I'll wait for the blu-ray.

Cumberbatch was at the Marvel offices long before Phoenix talked to them. There's pictures of it online, like here: ![]() A lot of people speculated that he and Moffat may have been working on Doctor Strange then. I wouldn't be surprised if it was early talks, before the MCU grew to what it is. But I think marvel always hoped to get Cumberbatch. Just like Ruffalo was he original choice for Banner, and they got him after the Norton issue. |

Ignoring my personal disinterest in Benny, I think he's a generally great actor and he's perfect for the role. But that's my biggest problem.
Marvel Studios casting has always been on the side of so crazy it just might work. I mean, the guy who played the Human Torch and starred in Not Another Teen Movie as the greatest soldier in the Marvel Universe, and the man every superhero would take orders from? Get outta here! The fat guy from Parks and Rec leading an intergalactic band of a**holes against one of the baddest motherf***ers in the galaxy? You've gotta be kidding me. The only way they could succeed is if they excelled. There had to be no room for "meh", and that brought an edge of danger and intrigue to the proceedings. They did absolutely excel, and it was a revelation to witness. Benedict is so right, so perfect for the role, that it's obvious. And obvious has never been Marvel's MO. That's why this is so anticlimactic for me. There's just no surprise here. He's gunna do just fine. But I'm not sure that's good enough right now. Of course I support him and Marvel's decision-making process, I have no reason not to. Of course I'll be there day one. I just can't say they've really peaked my interest beyond my own brand loyalty.
