Frankly, I was hoping that Dr. Strange could have been left out of all these phases and given a movie that works on its own. The tone of a proper Doctor Strange movie is drastically different than a movie for Thor or Captain America.

His background has a quality script lurking in it somewhere, I hope Marvel doesn't dumb this down for the 12-year-olds.

If a good writer is found, these directors would make an awesome Doctor Strange film:

Darron Aronofsky
Terry Gilliam
Michael Gondry

I would also love to see Joe Dante and John Carpenter helm at least one more film that would be a huge international success. For some reason, Carpenter hasn't directed a good film since the 1980s, and Dante hasn't directed a good film since the 1990s.

(No, really: WHY do they keep giving Darren comic-book movies after "Requiem For a Dream"? We lost him a long time ago...)

That was a deliberate joke about The Green Hornet, wasn't it? Please tell me it was.

I totally forgot he directed that piece of crap film. But that's why I said "good writer." Gilliam is great when he has good writers for example. The whole screenplay to Green Hornet was awful - I wouldnt put all the blame on Gondry. He needs to redeem himself and make a Gondry superhero film - none of his trademark weirdness touched Green Hornet.

I don't really know the source material too well. But, from the list of directors you displayed, do you think Guillermo del Toro would be a wise choice?

Thats who I want to direct. He would bring the right balance to Strange.

I'd like to see some relatively unknown international star play Dr. Strange and certainly not Viggo. Strange is a taller and slender character and more refined.

Jude Law has said he'd love to play one of these characters, but "they're all taken..." Maybe Dr. Strange?

He has the chops... and the right age range, no?

What do y'all think about Timothy Dalton as Strange? Put a mustache on him, I just watched the episode where he was in Doctor Who and with the cloak he was wearing I could see him as strange

According to CHUD, Marvel is moving forward with a "Doctor Strange" movie and is considering Justin Theroux to play the role. It's not clear if other actors are being looked at, but it's rumored that Theroux is already working on the script.

Theroux starred in such films as "Wanderlust," "Your Highness," and "American Psycho," and is known for his toned physique. The actor is also responsible for the scripts for "Tropic Thunder," "Iron Man 2" and "Rock of Ages."

Originated in 1963 by Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, Dr. Strange was a self-centered New York surgeon robbed of his touch after a car accident. After a stint as a wandering derelict, he found his way to a healer in the Himalayas, where he learned to tap into psychic powers to battle evil wizards and other wrongdoers.

Other actors previously rumored to play the role have been Viggo Mortensen, Adrien Brody and Patrick Dempsey. "Doctor Strange" is expected to be part of Marvel's third cinematic universe phase.

In really wish marvel would do 3 movies a year 2 big and 1 moderate budget.

I'll see a Dr Strange movie, but are we going to ever see epic things like a huge Namor movie or an Inhumans movie? They spent over $200 million on Iron Man 3--couldn't they make a Strange movie for $100 million or less and get more franchises started?

Panther, Ka-zar, Daredevil etc. lots of heroes waiting--so little spaces.

it's b/c of successful franchises like Iron Man and The Avengers that allow them to do a Dr. Strange or Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

let's not forget that Marvel was basically a start up company when Iron Man hit the theater.

Phase 2 is going to be the 1st real test for them in my opinion.....starting w/Guardians of the Galaxy. if they can pull that off (which i think they will), then they s/b able to pull off any of these lesser known characters.
