Jeez that first Doctor Strange Lego set is lame. Lego has all these talented designers yet they still release some sad-looking sets. Lego used to have complete castles and now they just plop down just one wall. At least make a complete room. I understand they need to release a low price-low quantity piece set but come on - two bookshelves, a window, a treasure box and squid tenticles is plop. The Ancient One figure is just awful - it looks like a bald carpenter. They should have given her some fabric robe/cape to make her more impactful.

Although I appreciate Marvel doing something a bit different with their product, there's a little too much Inception in these trailers to the point where I think it enters rip-off territory, and I'm talking in terms of the visuals.

They are all so generic. They should just sell the minifigures - that's what we really want!

The Spiderman bridge Lego is actually visually appealing and has a fun factor. I like the idea of the Batcave one too but the design is too spread out - it needed to be more complete and enclosed. All the Avengers and Superman V Batman sets were pretty lame. They should have made a Winter Soldier Nick Fury car with a machine gun that pops up through the drivers window like in the movie. If I can think of only one vehicle that I would have wanted to play as a kid out of all these Marvel phase films, it would only be Nick Fury's car with the pop up gun and escapable door at bottom of car.

I think they're safely in "respectful homage" territory at the moment, but depending on the finished film it could go either way. Honestly, I reckon they're emphasising those scenes in the trailer purely for marketing purposes. But having not seen the film, you could be bang on.

How much is too much in this case? The similarities are there but visually there is more going on in the trailers already than simply kaleidoscopic cityscapes. The ethereal form, prismatic effects, energy bands (which I assume are the crimson bands of cyttorak although not really crimson ). Why has it entered rip-off territory?

The only similarities is that the city is folding all over the place and not just one section like in Inception. I loooove Inception but these scenes from the trailers are already looking to put the scene in Inception to shame.

There are so many other things that will happen visually in Doctor Strange (if they do this right) that I don't think people will be using that stale comparison once they see the film.

That isn't saying it ripped off Inception though.
So much so that when my theatre had this trailer during my SS showing, the woman in front of me leaned over to her husband and asked if Marvel was making the sequel to Inception .

I've only seen the first and second trailer so far. Heavily excited to see this in November!

Also quite a fan of the character too. But only nitpick with the costume is the collar shoulda been more elaborate. But that's more an observance than an annoyance. It looks brilliant!

This rating description is confusing as ****. Still wondering if this is real. I guess it is, but I'll see the bulletin this week to make sure.

From Scott Derrickson on Twitter.

[Show spoiler]Rated PG-13 for "kaleidoscopic galactic intensity and other-dimensional psychotropic violence"

Interesting still.

It's interesting though, considering it was tweeted by the director.

what do you guys think the chances are of Midnight showings for this?

I've only known Marvel sequels to having midnight screenings here in the UK

I remember booking the first Avengers showing for 11am at the local IMAX and around the same, on the morning on release date for GotG, yet managed to watch CA:TWS, IM2, Thor 2 and Avengers 2 at midnight showings.

Last new run was Ant Man, last year, and despite the strength of the MCU brand, there were no midnight showings and I have a feeling this will be the same...

what do you(mostly fellow UK'er's) reckon the chances are?

Not to sound like the Python "Four Yorkshiremen" sketch, but I had to watch Ant-Man - opening day - on the crappy, small screen of my local 3 screen cinema. Completely ruined it for me, and the reasons for the choice of screen? The cash-cow that was Minions took screen 1, whilst a strictly limited engagement of a cheap, crap Thomas the Tank Engine movie occupied screen 2.

When I asked the management about their decision, their said that kids movies will always be the priority. This was before sheepishly admitting that they deeply underestimated the popularity of Ant-Man, even though Marvel were usually a license to print money.

I know that this only a provincial shapshot, but it all comes down to how well known the character is, and this is probably going to affect screenings of Doctor Strange. That the Marvel sequels get decent slots is rather telling, as the characters are known to general audiences by then.

I don't blame them for thinking Minions would be more popular than Ant-Man given the huge success of Despicable Me but it sounds crazy that they didn't expect it to do well. I think they could make a film about a superhero called Paperclip-Man and plonk the Marvel logo on and it will still sell well.

The only Marvel films that don't sell well are ones not made by Disney such as Fox.

Except Fox had done very well itself for the most part with the X-Men franchise. Just look at how well Deadpool did earlier this year. Even though Apocalypse didn't blow the roof off theaters, it did very well for itself financially as well, even if it was received as the lesser of the last two films. So, it's hard to say that Fox has really not sold the Marvel films well, unless we're talking about Fantastic Four from last year... But that's one film as of recently for them. Most of their films have done very well for themselves.
