Saw this today, loved every minute. Awesome action and visuals, comedy moments were spot on. Cumberbatch is perfect as Strange. Also two end scenes, one mid-credit and one end credit.

I can't believe I have to wait a month for this movie to be released where I live. Sigh...

Sweeeet. I've already got tonight and Saturday night for IMAX booked. Btw, were the more turn-y bits in the film a bit motion sickness inducing? I saw the trailer for it before Suicide Squad, and the part where the city turns and Strange and Mordo start falling away from the portal they're running for made me feel a bit sick, so it's made me worried I'll throw up or something, lol. Although I'm assuming that you would've mentioned if there was vomiting at your screening.

I don't suffer from motion sickness but I can imagine if you did it might not be so nice! There isn't a huge amount of that happening but only one way to find out if it will affect you I guess...

Well I don't generally either but I just found seeing that scene made me feel a bit queasy, which was displeasing. Hopefully I'll be all right, although I'm going to purposely not eat too much before I go tonight just in case.

Nothing beats the latest Paranormal Activity movie. I'm a pretty stable person but I was tripping coming out of that movie.

Wish they woulda used something different on the back, seems odd to have the same pose even with the ink change.

Ya, they missed a sweet opportunity to just have the eye of agamotto or the roof sigil on the back.

I still need that shirt. And the cup. And everything else about this movie.

I picked up a shirt at Meijer of Doc Strange breaking between the eye of agamotto and being reflected in different pieces of the shatter yesterday. I also ordered this one online:

Cumberbatch looks awesome as Strange.

Just got back from seeing it in IMAX 3D. Recommend watching in that format!

Great film, set the stage for Doctor Strange, funny moments, great pace, effects and action.

Loved the mid and end credits, especially the mid-credit

Never ceases to amaze me how they fit Stan Lee into each one of these movies.

Definitely recommended!!!

REALLY enjoyed this! Awe inspiring visuals that just look incredible in IMAX 3D, the fights were inventive, unique and exciting, Mordo was great, Benedict knocked it out of the park at strange, the whole cast was excellent especially in the more emotional scenes. Kaecilius I actually liked a lot as an antagonist, I found his motive clear and very relatable if misguided. I had one bugbear which would be a spoiler to mention but other than that I'm sold, clear 8/10 for me. A worthy addition to the MCU and one that does something unique and incredibly entertaining. Roll on more appearances of the good Doctor. Clear highlight for me was the opening sequence, what a way to start a film!!

Good reviews here and only one rotten on RT out of 40, I officially feel the hype. Can't wait until my screening starts in 5 hours and I'm glad I have a Saturday screening lined up as well. I'm just gonna sit here and listen to the score on repeat until I have to leave.

Well, with 40 ratings in as of now... 39 positive and one lone nut negative.

I think it's safe to start the "movie of the year" talk at this point. I've read the Oscar buzz and having this late year release date will have this movie in the minds of most people heading through the close of the year.

Marvel delivering TWO of the years best movies really should surprise no one but I'm betting it still does.

Saw this last night and only complaint was it felt a tad short.

Still one of the better Origin story movies (I find CA and Thor origin movies a tad dull personally, by comparison. Still solid movies, just I prefer their sequels) but certainly doesn't beat GotG and IM1 - still Marvels best origins IMO.

this movie NEEDS to be seen on the biggest screen you can find, and in 3D if you can tolerate it

btw
[Show spoiler]the bit about the experimental armour and damaged spine...are they referring to Rhody - we see Stark/Avengers tower in some skyline shots, VERY clearly - or is it harking all the way back to Hammer's attempt at an Iron Man suit from IM2?
I honestly dont know which reference they are making....

First of all I just have to say that my worry over motion sickness was completely unfounded, I didn't have a twinge in the slightest throughout the whole film, so that's a relief. I guess I was just feeling off that time I saw the trailer. And speaking of trailers, I had The Great Wall (non-3D), then in 3D was Rogue One, and the sneak peek of Guardians of the Galaxy 2! So I was stoked to see that on the big screen, and Drax's "You need to find someone who's pathetic" line was a bit hit with the audience. That film's gonna be huge when it's released.

Ok, regarding what timeframe and time period the film takes place in (yeslek, you just posted while I was writing this)
[Show spoiler]it's definitely not around IM2 because you can see the Avengers tower looking like it does in AoU in the skyline before his accident, which makes me think that the patient Strange turns down could possibly be Rhodey, but being that Civil War took place so recently, maybe not. And IM armour isn't exactly experimental at this point in time, so that part of the line makes me think not. Guess we'll have to get an answer from the Marvel PTB regarding that one. And it also means it didn't take place over years like I thought it might.

As far as the humour goes, it's more restrained than, say, AoU or IM3, and only has a couple of broader moments (mostly involving Wong, amusingly enough). And even though it was in the trailers, the wifi password joke got a huge laugh, as did some moments with the cape, which is definitely a cool "character".

People who have a problem with Marvel's villain "issue" definitely won't be appeased with Kaecilius, but he gets the job done. It really is focused more on Strange's journey, which I don't have a problem with. It also gets to have its cake and eat it too when it comes to the big third act CGI-athon films like this have. A few of the fights were particularly inventive and required quick thinking by the characters, so I also enjoyed that as well.

I did like the character of The Ancient One and her arc throughout the film.
[Show spoiler]Although perhaps arc is the wrong word, more the revelation of where she gets her power from and how it made Mordo turn away from group. She's very Fury-like in her usage of the dark energy and using it to do good, because he's not afraid to use some more questionable methods to get the job done. It's a pity she died though, she was pretty bad ass, especially at the beginning.

The visuals were definitely stunning, and brief parts of it looked quantum realm-y from Ant-Man, so it'll be interesting to see how they tie in together. It also has some astral stuff that's out there, but since this is Marvel you know they've earned going to some weird places with the audience.

As for the comparisons with Iron Man, they're pretty superficial imo. They're both rich jackasses, but I got more of a change in actual character with Strange than I've ever seen in Stark, so that was good. I'm looking forward to seeing how Strange fits in with the Avengers in Infinity War though, (spoilers only for the mid-credits scene-->)
[Show spoiler]being that he's already met one of them in Thor, that's a taste already. Speaking of which, it was cool to see Thor again, it's been a while and now I guess we know the answer as to whether he finds Strange since he had that card with the Sanctum Sanctorum's address on it in Ragnarok filming pics. Only one more year to wait. :/ And I bet he wishes he could keep that ever refilling cup he was using while talking to Strange.

Overall it's very enjoyable and I'd give it a solid 4/5. Cumberbatch did well with the role and made it his own, for sure.

I like Marvel's idea for "trippy" visuals.

"Oh, Inception looked cool, but they only flipped a block or two. We're having an entire city collapse in on itself! It's totally different!"

You're right, that's literally the only "trippy" visual in this movie.

Just stop.

Sorry if this has been addressed already, but are there any scenes shot in the IMAX format for this flick? I got IMAX 3D advance screening passes for next Tuesday, but I'm debating whether to see this(and thus save a buttload of money on an IMAX 3D ticket) or Edge of Seventeen(which I'm more interested in as a film) the same night.
