I watched the whole UHD though and didn't think it looked bad really (which I did for those other two). It just looked warmer and softer than I remembered. Also I noticed some obvious Miss Peregrine style banding in the sky in a few shots.

I put the BD in afterward and it felt like a huge upgrade, even though it theoretically would be a downgrade. Much more detail and a crisp, cool look. One of the things I loved about Oblivion was that bright white "refrigerator light" look to it, which the UHD removes in favor of the standard warmer look. God knows which is more accurate to the theatrical exhibition, but I like the unique look of the BD. The fact is has a lot more detail (very obvious when upscaled, not even a contest) is a bonus.

tl:dr Gonna call this the third UHD I think is worse than the BD. It's not ugly though, and I'll probably keep the disc. It's a unique and different experience.
GLAD im not the only one, i got the BD running on my Panasonic P50ST60 and the Blu-Ray is much sharper, even with Sharpness at 0, now the 4k Version on my Sony X900E is way less sharp, even turning it up and down doesnt make a difference, glad i only Paid $10.

I finally had a chance to watch this disc. A complete botch job from start to finish. Sure... Some shots of the skies look better on the UHD, due to the WCG and HDR, but fine detail has been scrubbed away throughout the film. I also detected a few instances of banding which is not present on the blu. I also did not care for the HDR grading overall. I much prefer the colors of the normal Blu-ray disc. This one goes straight to the second hand shop tomorrow.

What would the path to talk to the studio be?
This needs to be fixed! How can we make it happen?

My .02 on this UHD. I've read this entire thread and decided to purchase this UHD. Using a 65 OLED B6 and OPPO 203. I've owned the Blu of this movie since released, and watched it many times. Reference PQ/AQ. After viewing several spots from the UHD, it's obvious to my eyes of the filtering/softness in MUCH of the movie, including the close-ups. Unacceptable, frankly. It's really a shame that due to costs/time, they weren't able to do this in true 4K. That being said, I tested what Geoff D. suggested earlier in this thread. In my case, increasing the Sharpness on the Oppo. I increased Sharpness to +6 with no noticeable ringing on any of the image at just short of 9 feet viewing distance. I did my best to mimic the sharpness of the Blu-ray that I had in my Oppo 105D that's also in my system. Darbee at 45% on the BR of Oblivion. With the amount of filtering on the UHD, I was able to up the Sharpness setting to +6 without any noticeable artificial flaws. Yes, I notice ringing on the black bar edges, but those halos are there once you turn the Sharpness up to anything above 0. At +6, I see no halos within the image itself. To my eyes, for the most part, the sharpness of the image at +6 Sharpness (on the Oppo) on the UHD is very similar to the Blu-ray. At least on the many closeups. Perhaps the wider shots still aren't as detailed as the BR disc, but in motion, it's not a distraction for me. IMO, the HDR will make the UHD my disc of choice for viewing. As Geoff D. pointed out, the HDR on the UHD disc makes the BR disc look somewhat washed out by comparison. I would suggest those with the Oppo 203 perhaps try that and see if it provides a better viewing experience. YMMV of course. Obviously, I wish we didn't have to manipulate the sharpness for a better image, but without a re-do from Universal, it's all we have IF you want to watch this via the UHD. As most of us know, the BR is still a reference disc for those that totally frown on the UHD of this movie. The main reason I purchased this UHD was to compare it myself with and without adding some artificial sharpness and also because I'm not too confident we'll ever get a re-release of this anytime soon, regardless of how many complaints Universal receives. I hope I'm wrong!

What is universals contact info?
If we can all jump onboard, they might do the right thing.
I’m not talking exchange/refund. I’d be happy to rebuy a fixed version.

Is there a big difference in the color of BR and the UHD? I read somewhere that the BR has more of a white look where the UHD has more of a grey look ?

Is there a difference? Yes. Is it big? I don't think so. The BR has the more sterile white look to it, where the UHD has a warm look to it, you see the difference in skin tones, for example. If you've never seen the BR, the UHD's color is perfectly fine. But having seen the BR disc, you'll notice the difference. Some folks prefer one over the other as personal preference.

Ok thanks for the reply and i do have the BR but might buy this to see if raising the oppo 203 sharpness setting like someone else did to see how this looks compared to the BR.

Well it’s on sale so I went ahead and ordered. I can live with softness in order to gain HDR and a warmer temperature. I wasn’t a big fan of the “cooler” BD.

Video is only half of the story. The Dolby Atmos audio is worth the ten bucks easy.

You made a good decision!
Just watched the UHD in total and the Atmos track (5.2.4 setup) is totally aces. And, you can crank the volume on the Atmos track too. Wonderful. Please share your thoughts when you watch and listen. Cheers...
