Yeah, that's what pisses me off. They just keep releasing breaking news everyday about the Coronavirus, making people panic, but they are slacking off with the vaccine. Why the hell does it have to take so long? We can end this outbreak once and for all by getting people vaccinated!
They're not "slacking off," there's just myriad rules and regulations that need to be followed in order to ensure safety and efficacy.
There's at least 9 companies working on a treatment of some kind. No one would slack off over this as whoever is first to really create something that works well is poised to make a shit ton of money. Some of these companies' stocks are already soaring on speculation that they're close.
Starbucks customers may no longer use their own cups at the coffee chain, which cited concerns about the coronavirus outbreak in announcing the change in policy. Although that could change, there's no set date for when the personal cup opinion will return. Starbucks said it will continue to offer a 10 cent discount to people who bring in a cup or request "for here ware."
In an open letter posted on the company's blog, a Starbucks executive said the retailer is also taking other steps to halt the spread of the coronavirus. Those include sanitizing company-owned stores and restricting all business travel, both within the U.S. and abroad, until March 31. In addition, large meetings of Starbucks employees scheduled in the U.S. and Canada have been changed or postponed.
"As part of communities worldwide, we are navigating this situation with nimbleness, learning and adapting as new information is made available," wrote Rossann Williams, president of U.S. company-operated business and Canada at Starbucks.
Allergies causes sneezing and sniffling too. People assuming its the Coronavirus just from those are ridiculous.
Coronavirus isn't a souped-up version of the flu - it's a lung disease with flu-like symptoms. It kills by stifling breathing. Those with weak immune systems are the likeliest to succumb to it. I think the government is underplaying the seriousness by telling people to self-isolate if they "think" they have the virus. People need to be properly tested by trained professionals, and, yes, if they test positive, should be required to be quarantined in a facility.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) on Saturday declared a state of emergency in New York as officials seek to combat the spreading coronavirus.
Officials have reported 76 cases of coronavirus in New York, including 10 people who are currently hospitalized, the governor said.
The majority of the confirmed cases, 57, continue to be in Westchester County, with 11 cases in New York City and the rest spread across Nassau, Rockland and Saratoga counties.
New York has commissioned "hundreds" of tests for coronavirus and plans to push for many more, Cuomo said.
"I would test as many people as you can test because you want to know," he said.
New York had previously reported 44 cases of coronavirus as of Friday, and dozens of people have been under mandatory quarantine, instead of self-isolation, as a precaution, officials have said.
"There's no doubt that massive quarantine is the best way to slow the spread," Cuomo said Saturday.
The governor said officials are "hypercautious" about nursing homes and senior living facilities that may be especially vulnerable for the virus.
New York joins multiple states that have declared emergencies over the coronavirus, including Maryland, California and Utah.
The emergency declaration allows for more resources to go to local health departments responsible for monitoring those under quarantine, among other efforts, Cuomo said.
Cuomo said that while the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has authorized New York to contract outside labs for testing, it should also approve automatic testing for the virus.
"We now need the CDC to authorize automatic testing," he said, adding it would "exponentially increase the number of tests you can do."
"It's one thing that you don't do anything to help us, but at least don't handcuff us, and that's where we are right now," he asserted.
More than 300 cases of coronavirus, or COVID-19, have been confirmed in the U.S. across more than two dozen states.
The first deaths on the East Coast associated with the virus were reported in Florida on Friday, bringing the national death toll to 17, with most of those in Washington state.
Yeah, but a couple of months, ok. But two years??? Sounds a bit excessive if you ask me.
It will take months to even do the trials for a possible cure. A couple of years is probably optimistic considering we haven’t made cures to mers or sars yet. Supposedly one of the attempted sars vaccine attempts made other forms of corona viruses have higher mortality rates.
So should I shoot myself in the head now, or wait for the virus to get me?
What's funny is that Mayor de Blasio explained to the public yesterday how people catch the virus. Supposedly it's not as easy to pass on as you think. You literally have to sneeze and pass on your saliva directly into a person's eyes, nose and mouth to pass the virus onto another person. You don't catch the virus by breathing the same air as the infected person. And also, when an infected person touches something, the virus doesn't live that long and dies in a matter of 2-3 minutes. So the chances of you catching the virus by touching an object that an infected person touched is relatively low.
So why the heck is the virus multiplying at this fast of a rate? Is everyone spitting or sneezing into people's mouths???

Having up to a 2 week incubation period means lots of people are going around with it without knowing, and each person that that person comes in contact with had a high chance of being a new host, and then it just exponentially spreads from there. I expect numbers to double and triple eventually in NYC based on this.
