Reserved seating will help me pick seats 50 feet away from other people. I'll sit in a back corner.

I'm okay with the whole washing hands/not touching face/etc. thing -- but I keep thinking about all the times in the past that someone seated near me in a theater has coughed or sniffled their way through a show. That's bad enough when we're talking about the common cold, but this could be so much worse.
Wear a face mask and spray an entire can of Lysol on the movie theatre seat and the air around it.

This website is great
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

there is a table with far right column "cases per million" and you click that and it'll rank countries in terms of # cases per million which is a meaningful comparison factor

1. Italy 206
2 South Korea 151
3. Bahrain 111
4. Norway 108
5. Iran 107
.
.
9. China 56.1
.
.
42. USA 3.4

China has told the former NBA players playing in the Chinese league to come back and play. I don't think they would do that if they didn't feel like they're getting the virus under control. Maybe they will be playing in empty arenas like the Warriors and Nets will tomorrow night in San Francisco.

Is it just on my end, or is the John Hopkins interactive map not working any more?

edit: okay, seeing some new numbers now, but still buggy.

I wish the US had not taken a stand against masks. Like 80% of the country is coughing and sneezing and nobody knows for sure if it’s allergies or a cough or a mild corona virus. The masks obviously would help at this stage if for nothing else then for everyone’s sanity. It’s kind of creepy seeing like 30 people go silent every time somebody coughs or sneezes.

Also if you want people to stop touching their face put a mask and gloves on them. It’s a physical reminder and some added protection.

Movie theaters are screwed. You should not buy any concessions and probably use a mask and gloves and basically take a shower and wash all your clothing after the movie since you don’t know the medical history of the last guy in those germ infested seats. Overall it’s probably just not worth going to the theater at all till this thing is over.

So the NBA has never made a mistake before?

State officials are closing off games to audiences before the NBA does.

Thats only if you lick or smother your face over the seat.

Or touch the seat or arm rest, then touch your face. Or in the case of clothing, touch your clothing then touch your face.

Yeah the N95 masks definitely work. I believe they took a stand against them so people wouldn't be wearing the surgical masks instead and get a false sense of security. Also they didn't want people buying them all up so that hospitals and caregivers could have enough.

I'm a small business owner of a custom wood window and door shop, so I wear the N95 masks all the time in the shop (where I still work about half the day). I was able to stock up on them from my supplier a few weeks ago, before the prices went crazy, as I don't know how long this will last and I need those masks to avoid breathing too much sawdust.

I'm implying the NBA made a mistake. Or pandering since the Morey crisis.

I have tickets to 3D Mulan. The seats are reclining with plenty of room all around. The theater may be mostly empty anyway. There was no one sitting in our entire row when we saw Onward 3D last Saturday. Will wait to see if any cases crop up where I live and we can always bring blankets to cover the seats. But will not want to skip the popcorn.

Repeating what I said in a different thread

I think all theaters across the country should close for like 3 weeks. I would say the same thing for all sporting events, or any place where there's a gathering of lots of people. We need to drastically reduce the number of social interactions among people here, or we're looking at an Italy situation very soon.

Malls and Walmart have more people on slow days than movie theatres.

People are more spaced out in such environments, and not really staying around others for too long. It's not as high a risk as being in a theater, or sporting event with a potential carrier for ~2 hours.

That kind of introduces a moral hazard. Are we banning airlines from flying for 3 or 4 weeks? Any gathering over x number of people? Buffets? Grocery stores?

If they did shut everything down for 3 weeks, that doesn't mean you can't community acquire coronavirus from a person who entered from a non-hotzone country but had an outbreak later on. Then you'd have to do another shutdown, then another.
