Would just like to ask, why is this thread called 4k? All the films listed are 1080p which is just standard hd, or even bluray. 4k is ULTRA HD, 2160p minimum. Very few films like that out there

Question Certain movie titles on Blu-ray

Does anyone know if these movies are 2K, 4K, 6K, or 8K scans for their Blu-ray releases? Here's a list of the titles including the year of the movie, the video company, and the release date of each Blu-ray:
  • War of the Worlds (2005) - Paramount Home Entertainment - June 1, 2010 (Pieter V said it was photo chemical finished)
  • Meet Me in St. Louis (1944) - Warner Home Video - December 13, 2011
  • The Right Stuff (30th Anniversary Edition) (1983) - Warner Home Video - November 5, 2013
  • Yankee Doodle Dandy (Warner Archive Collection) (1942) - Warner Home Video - October 14, 2014
  • The Jazz Singer (1927) - Warner Home Video - January 8, 2013
  • Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) - Warner Home Video - November 16, 2010
  • All Disney/Pixar Films (I might know some that are 2K, but I just want to be sure)
  • Beauty and the Beast (1991) - Disney - October 5, 2010
  • The Lion King (1994) - Disney - October 4, 2011
  • The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) - Warner Home Video - November 5, 2013
  • Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (Fox Studio Classics) (1927) - 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment - January 14, 2014
  • An American in Paris (1951) - Warner Home Video - March 31, 2009

If anyone can please find out about these titles, I'd really appreciate it. If anyone already knows about these titles, then please tell me; again, I appreciate your help. Thank you.

Did I scare away or annoy anyone with this request? If I did, I apologize. I just love classic movies, and I'm always curious to know which one on Blu-ray got a great restoration.

It's just that there's no info on these titles, WB is notoriously secretive about it's output and Disney also.

Does anyone who's more active on here than me possibly know whether there's a kind of "anti-thread" to this one? By that I mean a list of films that were remastered for their UHD Blu-ray release but the regular Blu-ray has not been remastered.

At the top of my hat I've got the following films that, due to the specifications of the old Blu-rays, should have been released on a remastered disc but weren't: Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight and Die Hard but perhaps it'd be worth compiling a list like this one for that topic too? People seem to be angry if you ask "is the regular Blu-ray remastered?" on the 4K UHD threads and the reviews I've encounterd throughout the internet don't really mention it.

I'd be happy about any feedback (perhaps a review site I've missed) or interest about such a thread (if it doesn't already exist).

A person so inclined could probably compare the two lists, if the UHD thread has mastered in 4K, but this thread doesn't, violla, the regualar blu-ray wasn't mastered in 4K.

Did you just volunteer for the assignment?

Actually I'm not sure that would work, as I'm not sure this thread includes the "packaged" blu-rays in a UHD set if they were not separately released for blu-ray. But really, those should probably just be added to this thread if they haven't been already. I'd think they should be fair game to include on this thread with an (*) indicating which version to get for the remastered.

Looks like I did: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=306836

That thread is what I had in mind but feedback is welcome, of course.

Willard has the most breathtaking PQ on a Scream release ever and you think it was filmed in 2016 with it's restoration.

Criterion just announced their upcoming titles for September, and one of them has a new 4K restoration: A RAISIN IN THE SUN (1961), starring Sidney Poitier.

Post 2001: A Space Odyssey

Since 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (1968) has been restored and re-mastered in 4K for both UHD and standard Blu-ray release for its 50th anniversary, the standard Blu-ray will be getting a stand-alone release on the same day (October 30) as the UHD.
