I'll be importing the Mastered in 4K release next week of Lawrence of Arabia from Amazon JP since it's on sale there until September 30th. Getting it for $27.13 which isn't bad but I still wish it were on a BD100 with insane bitrate. Of course I'll still be keeping the release I already have in my collection and won't be rebuying it again until 4K physical discs. Same for the release I own of The French Connection.
There're limits, of course.

DTS-HD MA is less efficient than TrueHD, once decoded both produce bit for bit identical information to a PCM track.

They are just zip compressors, in that if you compressed a word document using winZip and WinRAR, both will produce the same word document, the same applies here.

DTS-HD MA tracks on average tend to have a higher volume, but once matched, will sound exactly the same, assuming they use the same source.

So I wonder what will be the first poor/lazy 4K blu-ray? Remember the beginning of regular 1080p Blu-ray when all the first ones had super picture and sound? I wonder which 4K title will be the first disappointment.

I think it did indeed get a 2K DI, but the scans of the film itself were at 4K, which is pretty much standard procedure these days because of the benefits of oversampling etc. [edit] Which Iron Man's DP Matthew Libatique talks about on Noah here (check the last paragraph): http://www.theasc.com/ac_magazine/Ap...Noah/page3.php.

It's great that certain members have been trawling the internets for any scrap of 4K information, but every mention of a 4K scan doesn't mean that the movie was finished at that res. [edit 2] For example, both of those articles that cite Day After Tomorrow explicitly mention that the movie was worked on at 2K from the 4K scans.

Does they still count as 4K transfers by this thread's criteria? I suppose so. But you won't see a theatrical deliverable of, say, Iron Man in 4K because it doesn't exist.
