With Predator UHE, they might have simply re-scanned the same film elements (IP) as used for the original disc but at 4K. I suspect this is what MGM has been doing (with Rain Man, Rocky, and Robocop). But in the case of Predator, obviously, Fox just went nuts with DNR, color boosting, gamma changes, etc.

Rain Man, Rocky, and Robocop look pretty good IMO. i was looking forward to Predator when it was announced and couldn't believe butchering that was done to it. I'm still trying to find out about Halloween 35th Anniversary edition. Someone told me that it did indeed had gotten a 4k scan and I didn't think that it did. Can anybody help me out with this please? Thanks in advance.

I agree, those three MGM releases look good and natural although my guess is they would look a bit more detailed if they went back to the original negative, but there are economic realities. They have the look of coming from IPs but that is okay. I've been meaning to watch Rocky for the first time on the FP, but it looked very good on my previous Panasonic VT60.

I am curious about Halloween myself and probably spent 15 minutes on Google trying to track down a source on it - nadda. I think if it did receive a 4K scan, it would be prominently stated as most studios like to advertise such things versus just "remastered". It does look very good and detailed though.

Well, I know that they used a 4k master for a screening that came out about a month or so before the blu was released. The question is, did they use that same master for the blu-ray. I can't find it anywhere either. Like you said, it looks great regardless!

Did anyone who saw it say it had the same look and color of the Blu?

No engineer would butcher a 4K master like that. When you perform a 4K scan, the cost of doing so is high, the whole point is to preserve grain structure and detail.

Applying DNR to the level of which they did, pretty much rendered a 4K scan useless, unless they are going to release it properly on Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray, in the future.
They scan the film in 4K and do all work in 2K. With DNR, Color/contrast boost, a scan can completly ruin. A user have this information from James Finn from Fox.

In my opinion they did the same with Patton. but on Patton they going back to the scan and make all work new for a more filmic transfer(the remastered version).

Same color timing I believe but that's all I've heard. For it to be put on this list there has to be a definite source and I can't find one at all. That's why I'm asking on here now, hoping for an answer.

It was great to see they went back to Patton - too bad they wouldn't revise Predator but I guess they figure the original release is the alternative.

Yeah, it's odd that it's so hard to find a source. I am very curious now. lol

The old disc is far from perfect. Its an old transfer with a outdated codecs and many video noise.

Maybe Fox go back and make a new disc for the release of Shane Blacks Predator 4.

Small update, A Good Year (Ridley Scott's film) is finally being released (in Europe at least and is sporting a 4K transfer)

It's in the same release line, like Working Girl & A Good Year.

Did they do the same with the 5 original Planet of the Apes movies, Commando, The Fly and so on ???
So it seems.
