I've heard Sony has a 4K scan of Sleepless in Seattle just like they do Groundhog Day. But has there been confirmation that that's what ended up on the Twilight Time disc is the 4K scan? I've seen the disc and I've studied the screen caps and I have a truly hard time believing that it came from a 4K source.
Also Twilight Time have stated on their FB page in the past that The Blob that they've released came from 4K scans from Sony. Born Yesterday is another Sony title released through TT rumored to have had a 4K scan done as well. I'm sure someone can confirm. Last edited by tama; 02-11-2015 at 04:17 AM. |

On Die Hard 1-3 and Home Alone new 4K transfers exist, but the exiting Blu-rays use old 2K transfers. |

The UK Arrow release features the same transfer as the US Fox release (just slightly better encoding on the Arrow), which indicates that there maybe only one transfer in use of BTILC, which is this 4K master. Other Fox titles that have also had 4K transfers have been re-released in the theatre but not on home video i.e. the Die Hard films, which again have at least been shown. Home Alone, when was that given the 4K treatment. was there a cinema re-release? If you look at the remastered releases of Wall Street and The French Connection (also 4K transfers), they look similar to BTILC, they look clean/fresh, but still in keeping of the original look of the film, as you know, 4K transfers tend to lead to other modifications in terms of colour, etc. Which I never think is a bad thing, especially if the Director has approved the new transfer. My point is, not every 4K transfer is going to give you Lawrence of Arabia levels of clarity and definition, different film stocks, equipment, lighting, conditions etc. Last edited by Tech-UK; 02-11-2015 at 10:25 AM. |

@tech-uk, Home Alone was somwhere in this thread in a list of newly done restorations.
Its possible that Fox keep the new 4K transfers for new 4K discs, so that the inprovements are bigger. Re-shown in theaters(only in some countries) are little fishes for Fox. No studio make only for this new transfers. My point is, when a new restoration exists, its possible that the studio dont use this for the exiting Blu-ray(for example Clockwork Orange). I hope Fox brings this year(80th Anniversary) new blu-rays for Die Hard 1-3 with the new 4K transfers. |

Yes, holding back for UHD Blu-ray is a possibility, but like Clockwork Orange and the Die Hard films (1-3), these were re-released in selected cinemas and film events, these 4K transfers were done before UHD Blu-ray was established. If a different transfer of BTILC is released, then I will accept defeat. ![]() ![]() |

It makes more sense, that they did this for two other reasons: 1.When the interpositives or negatives decompose at the time(like The Godfather and the Godfather 2), they save this films with a restoration for the future. 2.They fave better transfers for future Blu-ray releases, 4K streamings and new 4K blu-rays The industry talks about 4K since a few years. Its the next big thing, after Full HD and 3D. Its not only since 2014. Lowry Digital make 2006 some James Bond 4K restorations for the Ultimate Edition DVDs. |
