There are obviously A LOT of people on different forums saying they will not buy this Blu-ray that, as you say has not been released yet. So YES people are complaining about a movie that has not been released yet. Last edited by Buddy Christ; 08-27-2009 at 08:27 PM. |

Although, she was kind enough to re-direct me to another executive's office, where I spoke with a lady named Katie who kindly told me she would ask around, and get back with me about it. We shall see. =) I'm a very tenacious person, so a person's appellation does not dissuade me. |

IMO AQ is twice as important as PQ. A few people who've already watced the BD posted that the AQ is A+. This alone is enough for me to upgrade! ![]() |

lol! that whole complaint department thing is funny. dude you have to realize none of us can do that wo having to explain how we watched it prior to its release date. lol but i think ppl should calm down.... this thread has become seriously heated and harsher place to post in the last little bit. like the guy before said... its just a disc, we all need to RELAX. "i feel like i need body armour just to post in this thread" lol
.... bonus points for the faceplant pic. |

The guy implies that a first transfer was made, really poor, to match a HD DVD + Blu Ray release. then a superior encode was made for HD DVD only. Then the current release used the original poor version, with bits of the HD DVD "superior encode" for the extended scenes. 1) Blu Ray has always had more bitrate bandwidth than HD DVD. Doing a "poor" multi format then "better" version solely for HD DVD does not compute. 2) Using said already made poor version with bits of the better version instead of only using the best encode does not make sense either. Once the encode is done (even partially), the cost is already done. There's then no sense in mixing good with bad and fiddling / using time to patchwork the whole thing, costing money. Even if the "top" encode was only partially finished (it had to be well advanced, to have all the extended bits), I'm pretty sure that finishing it would be less costly than trying to mix and match the poor one and the good one. From a cost perspective, as well as image of Paramount in their Sapphire series, it does not make sense that a "top" encode was already made, even if only partially. It could make sense on the other hand that they had a "relatively" poor encode prepared to a HD DVD release after they went exclusive, and then decided to save a buck recently to -only- encode with top AVC encoders the bits necessary for the extended version. After all that, why they would try to pull something like this (-IF- confirmed, and that's a big IF) for Paramount's Sapphire series and one of the most acclaimed title in their catalogue, that would be beyond me. Back to the AVS posting, that guy sounds like a huge HD DVD bitter fanboy, up to the point where he points out at the "fanatics" of Blu-Ray.com Last edited by Elandyll; 08-27-2009 at 08:36 PM. |

It may seem foolish to some, because the title has not been released yet; but this should get the movement going. A consequence could be a recall that happens sooner, rather than later. Last edited by bypass; 08-27-2009 at 08:38 PM. |

Heh, we're all fanatics. That's why we're all discussing a disc we've not even seen yet. I don't myself hold much creedence to the "rumor" and all the supposed "backlash" Matt is getting from his sources. It could very well be true, but I remain a healthy skeptic.

That's not quite how it works, actually. When a film is transferred, i.e. scanned, you end up with raw data in 2K, 4K or 8K resolution, depending on the scanning resolution. That raw data is then color-corrected in post, because the colors are off coming out of the scanner. After that you have a proper master, ready for further processing required by the release media. It's that master you start with when encoding for DVD or Blu-ray. You don't take a master pre-processed for DVD and use that for Blu-ray.
