As an American who for several years lived and worked in the UK, with a mixed crew of brits and americans, I will attest that the brits we worked with loved our Thanksgiving celebrations. We even included yorkshire pudding to make them feel like part of the festivities.

I can have a Yorkshire pud anytime.

I don't mean to dump on your festivities chaps, I just don't want any more of them foisted upon the UK.

Halloween's bad enough, then the melee of Black Friday suddenly appeared in the last couple of years and Thanksgiving would be the final straw, might as well declare the country as the 51st state and be done with it.

I have to agree with Geoff sorry to go off course here but i notice a influence of American culture more and more in my country Ireland.
We never heard of Black Friday till a few years ago and now i see stores here trying to use it before Christmas if we all start taking different ideas from other countries we will lose our own national identity.

That's exactly it mate. And I'm NOT blaming our American cousins for that so I apologise if my comment on the previous page got up anyone's noses, it's more anger at our spineless ruling elite (especially in Engerland, I can't speak for the Irish) who are content to sacrifice our own history and values at the altar of political correctness whilst celebrating every other religious/cultural festival under the sun.

No thanks. There's a holiday about a month later in December where families get together and eat yummy food (inc. a big turkey dinner) and generally celebrate anyway, I forget what it's called...

Indeedy. But as soon as Black Friday was adopted virtually overnight I knew it wouldn't be long before some UK 'lifestyle commentators' latched on and decided that we should give Thanksgiving a try. Still, it was only Yahoo and their writers are usually lucky to have two brain cells to rub together so maybe I shouldn't get so angry about it.
