Vudu has the fixed AR version in High-Quality if you are interested....

Well you could crop the Blu-ray to 2.40:1 and burn another disc!

It's being done in places for all of Nolan's movies like this

I've tried it already with ffmpeg but I just don't have the necessary know-how. It's not a straight centre crop from the IMAX anyway, your shot of Brand in particular is a prime example so it'd need a script to adjust it from shot-to-shot.

A script, or shot by shot by hand

There’s a new projector system install in town….http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...hnology-785806
Now what's needed is to supply it with worthy resolution content.

I like how the IMAX laser system uses 2x 4K projectors to overlap the two 2D images to reduce aliasing and whatnot. Can't wait to get a look at it in action, though the BFI IMAX haven't got around to it yet.

Still think it's odd they moved to digital projection and went with 4K, unless I am misunderstanding something

I have and at the bfi, and have tickets for Avengers! I just think it's odd the size of the real screens and the resolution of 65mm are not a sum that works out at 4k

It sounds terrible if you ask me, IMAX can get a bad rap as it is, what with all the LieMax's, this method doesn't help them much either.

To quote your good self: can I borrow your time machine? The BFI IMAX haven't had their laser projection system installed yet AFAIK. (Edit: the only two completed installs in existence are in Toronto and LA.) Anything there that's digital (flat or 3D) is running on 2K Christie projectors. Again, AFAIK.

The point is that you've got two 4K projectors combining, one overlapping the structure of the other, so in the simplest possible terms it could be said you're effectively looking at 8Kx4K, which should be enough to oversample 4Kx2K sources to the point where there's no visible line structure etc, something that's vital on a screen that size. (Edit the 2nd: IMAX actually do that with their current 2x2K digital projector set-ups, which explains why I never saw any aliasing or other digital greeblies with the 2K screenings of Raiders, Ghostbusters and Blade Runner Final Cut at the BFI IMAX.)

No sorry wrong end of the stick, I meant to say I have seen digital projection in the BFI, not the laser system! My bad

It’s not 4K, but for an ‘aerial perspective’, I kind of think this is pretty cool since it’s a new world record for ‘Darshan flying from the top of the world’s tallest building, the Burj kalifa, soaring above Dubai and then diving with the exhilarating speed of 170 kph towards his handler’…. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1567359683532605

Heck, I’m just happy that mike read The Hollywood Reporter article beyond this phrase …“High dynamic range — the range between the whitest whites and blackest blacks — has Hollywood particularly excited” without busting my balls before like here for I’m starting to run out of emoticons and comebacks.

P.S.
Soon sitting down to watch the Arsenal, so if you say anything about any Prem matches, please be sure to use dem spoilers.

Unfortunately though, the YouTube video (shot with a Sony Action Cam mini) doesn’t do justice to what the eagle is actually seeing as it descends to locate its handler, for dem birds have rather enviable eye anatomy as compared to us humans -
