I was not one who thought 3D at home would be very good. Small screen sizes being the number one factor. I was wrong. I love 3D at home. My wife is not a huge fan but the experience at home is better than the theater many times and I am glad my tv provides me the 3D experience.

I was one of those naysayers that said that 3D was a fad and that it wouldnt last long ect. Oh how that has changed since I got my HX750 LED/3D HDTV this past September. I now love 3D in the home and support the format all the way.

I too was very skeptical about 3D. Just kept saying to me: "GIMMICK TO SELL MORE TVS",lol.
Went to a friends house to watch Tron: Legacy on his newly purchased 3D tv and I was just floored. I'm a fan all the way now. I don't even listen to official reviews on 3D films in theaters because the 3D tech at home currently is better than the 3D at the theater,IMO. Watched Tron: Legacy for the first time on my not quite 2 weeks old Epson. Just reinforced the positives of 3D at home even more. |

d now that it is, filmmakers can see their vision fully realized. Titanic knocks the socks off most native 3D films. |

I held out for a while on purchasing a 3D tv, but over the Thanksgiving weekend picked up two new passive 3D tvs.
What held me back into adopting the format initially was the cost of glasses...most sets came only with a pair of glasses since the technology out was active 3D and I wasn't willing to fork out several hundred dollars just to pick up extra glasses so that friends/family over could experience it. Now that a few manufacturers have implemented passive 3D into their TV's, it makes the transition more affordable and practical. I may lose out a bit on the quality of picture because of the technologies limitations but I'm ok with that...heck, looks fine to me. Only now I wish I had opted to spend a little more initially and picked up the titles that offered 3D rather then picking up the cheapest versions since now I'm double dipping on a bunch of titles. ![]() |

Funny to see some people were on the other team as well. When Digital 3D first showed up I wasn't supportive at all. Saw a bunch of 3D movies at the cinemas, including Avatar, and I couldn't see a damn thing! Only when there was an extreme 3D shot could I somewhat see the 3D effect. A year ago I got a new computer that came with 3D and was blown away by how radically different it looked.
After seeing a 3D movie on a 4k projector I wouldn't bother seeing a 3D movie in the cinemas on 2k projector. |

Great thread and stories about how a great 3D movie can help turn the tide.

![]() A friend of mine also gets headaches from 3D, but admits watching it only one time, not multiple times, but also has special glasses to see with, so that explains that situation anyway. I can say that as long as a person has regular vision without needing to wear any special type of sight glasses, a lot of it is a matter of sitting far back enough till the 3D is comfortable (wearing 3D glasses that don't hurt your head by poor design of the glasses), then gradually moving in closer with each new movie viewed as your eye muscles get stronger, viewing a new 3D movie (or the same one with strong 3D) every other day, to allow the muscle to rest and rebuild on the day off, so next time you try, they're stronger. That worked for me and a few others anyway. |

![]() Now, my buying has slowed down to almost a standstill until the last few months with quite a few titles that came out that we're pretty good. I won't name them, you'll just have to assume or know. But as you said Goof, it now has to be a knock your socks off title for me to buy. Well, you didn't exactly say that but I get your drift. I do disagree, somewhat, that conversions are all a waste. There have been some really good conversions that are semi close in quality to a natively shot film. Not a ton, but they're out there and I own them. Last edited by koover; 12-05-2012 at 12:34 PM. |

I understand people that have a CIH or scope setup might be miffed. I have a 16x9 screen and I like that the picture fills the screen, especially for 3D, but if the 3D BD was released in OAR, the bars on the screen would've not bother me a bit. The film, SQ & PQ was what I expected from Cameron and gang so I wasn't disappointed. As for the dollar amount, well for an epic like Titanic, go big or go home is what I would say before I would even consider converting a film like Titanic.

Yeah that would be fun to get together and demo some films! I would also like to check your HT out too (need to hear those Emo amps!)! I just need a block of time to myself! We have a Disney trip coming up in two weeks and I am helping my mom move after the trip! |

@HD Goofnut - Why do you disregard conversions completely? Most of them that come out these days are really really good. What difference does it make if it's converted as long as it looks good? That's like boycotting movies that use CGI instead of miniatures as it's 'fake'. You're probably thinking that there is no way a conversion can match up to a native film as a 3D camera captures infinite points in space where as a conversion consists of depth planes manually done by people. Though this is true, they do look good. How about this? Download a 3D trailer for a converted movie and watch it.. No purchase necessary.. tell us what you think.
