My feelings too as mentioned above with many favorites still not yet on Blu-ray. Even Twilight Time has many silent on DVD only. |

This used to be called "The Official 3D Smackdown Thread" which I always thought was a strange title for a general thread about 3D. There are enough people smacking 3D down at the moment as it is and it just makes me shake my head at the idiocy of it all.
We live in a time where technology allows us to watch 3D movies at home often looking better than they do in cinemas and yet the entertainment industry is not only trying to convince us that 2D is the future of home entertainment, but it's also severely reducing the options for viewing 3D at home while continuing to release 3D movies in cinemas. When I see a film in 3D in the cinema, that experience stays with me and that's the experience I want to replicate at home. 4K doesn't do that, blu-ray doesn't do that, DVD doesn't do that, streaming doesn't do that - the only format that can do that is 3D blu-ray. |

I own Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 4K - 3D. I've seen it on my 10' screen in 3D and love it. I've seen it at Best Buy in 4K on I think a 80" tv. 10' 3D is in my opinion is the better, more immersive way to watch it.
Any feelings on the Guardian viewing? |

I never experienced 3D in the theaters and so you don't know how good - and yes - proud - it makes me when I read you and others say it matches and often enough exceeds what you see in the cinema. I say that not only because I'm a home 3D addict but also because it gives me an immense sense of pride and satisfaction with my equipment and collection. People do feel good about themselves through the "toys" they own but as long as this does not obsess one to where it becomes essential to one's own self esteem, or lack of it, that is fine. The same goes for those obsessed trying to put down something others enjoy. Hence an armchair psychiatrist's analysis of the motivation behind certain indivuals that the issue is not 3D at all but their need to feel good about themselves by putting down others. So that's why some smack it down. And it's a trap we can all fall into easily. It's catching it that separates a passionate opinion from an uncontrollable obsession and closed mind, if not something more serious. So glad home theater doesn't take a back seat to the movie theater despite the obvious big screen which no doubt, like IMAX, is an experience on to itself. 3D is not and never will be dead! |

Would really like to have in the Board rooms where they are discussing the removal of 3D from the sets . i mean the software was written already , why not leave it in. don't like it , don't turn it on , simple. Or why a company like Lg did not decide to maybe become the one and only premier supplier of 3d sets. When 1080p Plasma sets were on the market the demos were everywhere (even though it did not look all that good). but when 4K came out with 3D I did not see many(very few actually) demos even though it was really awesome to behold. I have extensive collection of 3Ds , I buy all I can get my hands on because when a movie is gone that's it no more printing. Might find it on Ebay at a much higher price. its so disappointing what the Suits have done .

Work have GOTG 2 running on all the lg oleds and led sets in 2D 4k, and it just leaves me cold, its simply an empty, barely better than the normal 2d blu ray picture. on my 2013 lg passive tv, GOTG looks a little less bright, but so so so much better in 3D. and doubly better on a 4k oled 3d passive. leaves me with a big grin on my face and it feels like an experience...I don't want to just watch a film in 3d, I want the sound on a home cinema, total silence/ peace with nobody half watching whule checking their facebook feed every 2minutes- that's the power of a good 3d film, totally immersive. |

"that's the power of a good 3d film, totally immersive."
Hi Pres, That's all that needs to be said. 3D opens up an entirely new viewing experience and once in all three dimensions, going back to only two just doesn't cut it anymore. |

Better than 4K? 3D is where the picture comes out of the screen, and 4K is a resolution. They are both good. All TV's should have these 2 things at once.

I have an Epson 3D projector. When I project with blu-rays it's movie theatre quality. On the rare occasions I've gone to the movies, it's no longer a special occasion. My projection screen is 7' x 6' and it's beautiful. If I had a larger room I could get it up to 300". Maybe 4K would work better at that size.
How much better can 4K be? I can understand it looking stunning (possibly) on a flat screen TV, because I've yet to watch any flat screen where I've been impressed with the quality, blu ray or DVD. At home I have a 30" flatscreen that my wife watches, and I use the 19" old fashioned TV in the bedroom. From my oldman perspective I prefer old fashion tv to flatscreen, it has warmth. |
