![]() Lol, but really There are plenty of mediocre 3D releases that I prefer the 4K over, or hope for one. I mean, I have almost every USA 3D release, the fact is there is a lot of mediocre and 3D was fading away before 4K even came to the fold. |

The Power of 3D is...
I buy and watch moves I probably would never watch (well, more than once anyway) in a hundred years in 2D or have watched and found them mediocre at best and yet I still want the 3D version.... (e.g. Metalstorm, Transformers 3-5, Jaws 3, Pixels, Piranha/Piranha DD, Avatar, RIPD, The Stewardesses, Comin' At Ya!, etc.). Offer those movies in 4K and I couldn't care less. More resolution and any HDR contrast changes doesn't "change" the movie one tiny bit. It's still a crap/boring movie. But 3D changes that somehow. Crappy becomes less crappy. Amityville 3 is not a very good movie, but the 3D popouts were so awesome here I could go watch it again right now. I didn't like Captain EO at Disney World, but I went and saw it anyway every time I went there for the 3D. Then again, I probably won't be watching Metalstorm again for some time...if never. It was just awful...awful. OMG. My memory had wiped itself out from when I saw it at the theater. The ONLY thing I could remember about it was the 3D wasn't working very well at the theater and the movie was AWFUL. I read the reviews and darn, I think I must have missed something! Nope. STILL HORRIBLE. Plan 9 From Outer Space is at least so bad it's good for a laugh. Something like Megaforce is hilarious even though it's total crap as a serious movie whereas Metalstorm is just plain crap. I guess what I'm saying is that if you haven't bought Metalstorm yet, DON'T. ![]() |

Exactly my feelings! 3D is just a whole different level. I love it! Without the 3D, admit would probably not have purchased 90% of the movies I did. Not to say wouldn't have found most of them entertaining but without the 3D would be satisfied enough to have watched once on cable or make an inexpensive dvdr dub for my collection. Always mention my first experience with the original Pacific Rim. While watching it on cable got bored and turned it off after 20 minutes. When getting into 3D, wanted to build up a collection and was able to stock up on many used copies inexpensively so got Rim. This time could not stop watching it. It was like a different film on 3D. Now it's one of my favorites. The lure of 3D also introduced me to many fine Asian films and directors. Never knew of the fantasy films like monkey king, journey to the west, white witch, etc or masterpieces by Tsui Hark like taking of tiger mountain. And who could fully enjoy and be in awe with such. films like The Great Wall or The Walk without 3D? Or those fifties classics like Kiss Me Kate, Sadie Thompson, House of Wax? That's why I added the 3D video wizard to my den system which was hardly used anymore and wished had 3D. Even though an anaglyph add on device which should not be compared to my active Sony, it surprisingly provides pleasing depth and reproduction (not much with pop outs) withnjust a bit of tolerable crosstalk. And for $36 (unopened box) plus the cost of extra glasses, I now have my second 3D home theater. I use it for 3D "reruns" watching in spurts. Could go on but would only be repeating myself and boring the rest of you guys. That's what happens with me when asking if one likes 3D. Don't have 4K and know the picture quality is superb, but just like you feel, would not trade higher resolution for 3D anytime. And what's so horrible about 1080p which just a few years back was the gold standard of the video world? I simply added a darbee video processor for higher quality pixel reproduction. |

I like both, but I'd say 3D. It's an awesome feature that I'd like to always have. Too bad manufacturers are dropping it. Why not give us both? If you don't like the 3D function, don't use it. No one's forcing you to. We can have both coexist to keep both sides happy. The loss of 3D so quickly is a giant middle finger to us, especially since the companies only seem to care more about the people that hate it instead of the people that like it.
I stopped following David Katzmaier on Cnet. He ripped 3D whenever he had the chance. He's incredibly smug and treats his opinion as absolute fact. I'll go 4K one day, but I'll always prefer 3D. 3D TV should be kept anyway. Aren't things supposed to move forward to have people upgrade? Why take a feature away? It doesn't make sense to me. It's basically one step forward, but then three steps back with the stuff. Would a car manufacturer install side airbags only to have them removed later on because people didn't like it? You win some, you lose a lot. Last edited by Count Orlok; 07-10-2018 at 05:00 AM. |

Just be glad that you see it in all its glory and enjoy it. I feel so bad for all those they don't enjoy it. Just luck of the draw I guess. There is more than meets the eye here. Pun intended.
3d apparently is just not for everyone. Or dare I say, most. |

I feel bad not for those who might not enjoy it for that needs to be respected but I do feel very sorry for those who never had the chance to experience a demonstration either in a store or in one's home and make up their own minds. |

I get frustrated when customers are hoodwinked into giving up their non repairable 3d sets for 2d 4k replacements with supposed better processors and motion smoothing, but i love when a customer who wasnt even aware their e6 or g6 had 3d discovers it. One guy said his fave movie of all time was creature from the black lagoon, and was buzzing to know it was in 3d. |

![]() Avatar was only successful because it was in 3D. Otherwise, it's just a Pizarro or Andrew Jackson narrative with blue painted natives (that should have just used blue makeup instead of CGI because they look fake as hell and will only look worse over time). Watch the second movie FLOP like crazy and that will be the end of that series. Frankly, I wish James would stop wasting his time with crap projects and get around to releasing True Lies in HD even (let alone 4K). It's been FOREVER. A sequel to that movie would have been far more welcome, IMO. But then he wants to reboot T2. Just let dead dogs lie.... T2 ended perfectly. It doesn't need and never needed any more bloody sequels. All Hollywood cares about is MONEY. That's why shows get dropped without endings. It's why we get horrible sequels made by other people than its creators. People need to stop supporting GARBAGE or it will continue forever. All we get today are reboots, remakes and sequels. |

No, there was an HBO release, I think in HD that was to be found on the usual sites, but that's as close to an HD release as has ever been. Cameron wants to oversee it himself, but he never has any time to do anything, so it just sits as DVD only for DECADES (this sort of crap has really reduced my opinion of the man; he apparently thinks no one can do anything right without him being there. How do the studios manage with the thousands of other movies not converted to HD/4K without the director present?

If something God forbid goes wrong with my three year old Sony, I'll track down another model, even if used, somehow. 3D was introduced right after most consumers had purchased HD sets and were not going to buy another expensive one. But today with many blue ray titles, there is no reason to not incorporate 3D as a feature for those who buy discs to try at their own discretion. With the cost of a 3D player now as low as $70, one not need invest a lot for accessories. Same with active glasses. Don't think 3D was a consumer failure but being introduced when many were not purchasing new sets, instead of just keeping it as an optional feature that in time could slowly catch on, my feeling is 3D simply became victim to downsizing expenses. The cost today certainly could be consumer friendly. Look how inexpensive 4K sets are. |
