If there's a 3D release, then I'll try go for a 4K/3D combo, if none - then 3D all the way. I will say that some old 3D transfers were pretty meh to downright pointless in some movies, but over the last couple of years, the conversions have become extremely good. Especially at Marvel Studios.

It's a shame now that the technology has finally matured and being done right, the industry has basically decided to pull the plug. Hopefully it will be introduced again as glassless 3D soon. Maybe along with the Avatar sequels.

I just plan to soak up as many 3D experiences as possible for as long as possible. If my projector breaks, I have my tv. If my tv breaks, I have my VR headset.

Hi steed,

And if all else fails? I'll look for another Gizmo that converts 2D to 3D!

Yeah, I was struggling for another solution if the VR breaks!

Seriously though, the headset is a fantastic fallback.

Hi steed,

Just don't fall on your head when using it.

Did you watch "The Walk" with headset yet? For one scared of heights, even the 3D had me reaching for a paper bag. So can imagine it on your headset!

Yeah, it was a cracking film. The second half was a joy in 3D but it had some cool pop out before that also.

I watched it on the headset a few months after and it was very cool. It’s not a true VR experience (I look forward to that game/experience) it’s simply a large screen in your line of sight with the film playing as it would on a regular tv with a Blu-ray player. The quality is full HD but it’s not quite as sharp as a regular Blu-ray on s projctor or OLED tv.
If you only have a tv and not a projector , the ability to watch on a huge screen would be fantastic I imagine. I have a projector but the headset is still a cool experience. The pop out is incredible and the depth very good but not quite as deep as a top quality OLED 3D TV or projector.
The biggest screen option is probably the equivalent of a 200 inch screen from six or seven feet away.

All in all, a very good stand by. I have even balanced a Red/Cyan pair of cardboard glasses in the lenses of the headset and watched old fashioned 3D. It looks great!

I think before long, we will be able to choose different rooms to watch the films such as cinema room, drive in, private screening room etc.,

Do you watch 4k and 3D and have gone for 3D when buying, or never really got into 3D?

I have seen some poorly done 3D where im indifferent to it and if 4K was the same price id be happy with that, but still not seen anything in 4K that has got close to the better 3D on an oled 4K set.

price of the VR ps4 eadset down to £150 preowned now....that and a console would be too pricey still- but ill likely get one, one day.

One question- can a hme cinema be used to add proper sound on VR or does it have to use the VR headset speakers only?

I used to have a 3D TV but sold it after a year, I never liked it. Now I have an OLED TV and truly love HDR and the stellar picture on my C7. 3D wasn't my cup of tea, once a year in a theater is more than enough for me.

I have an OLED TV but I don't use it for 4K/HDR viewing, flat entertainment is just not my cup of tea at home unless it's in the background while I'm on the PS4 or something. Luckily the TV supports 3D, otherwise I'd have sold it already. No, that's a lie. The fact is, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place if it didn't support 3D.

If I'm going to watch a movie flat, I'll watch it on my phone on my way to and from work, the quality is more than enough for me.

See, I could never do that. I couldn’t watch on a small screen. I can’t wrap my head around the fact you would do that rather than watch a 4K film on a nice OLED, 3D or not.

My love of film overrules everything else. As long as I can watch in Blu-ray or 4K quality, I’m happy. 3D is a beautiful bonus but I would never stop watching films if 3D dies completely.

Yeah, it is a fact. 3d is just not for everyone. I love it and couldn't live without it, but for many it is just a cold fish. That probably explains why it never really catches on. The people who love it cannot understand why everyone doesn't love it and the people who do not like it cannot understand why anyone would like it.

Just nature in action I suppose.

The picture is full HD but looks a little ‘fuzzier’ and not as crisp as Blu-ray on a OLED or projector.

The main bonus is if you only have a tv, you can enjoy 3D on a huge screen (around 200 inches). The pop out can be touching your nose sometimes, it’s that good. Like I said before, depth is very good but not quite as deep as a top quality OLED or Projector. The pop out is probably better than many televisions though.
