Home cinema will work fine.

If I'm going to watch a movie flat, I'll watch it on my phone on my way to and from work, the quality is more than enough for me.
Hi 13,. Can enjoy watching a film flat as long as I know it wasn't in 3D. That's why have not purchased a flat Young Detective Dee Sea Dragon. After seeing half the film in 3D before the disc froze, could not bear seeing it any other way, including simulation.

You really want to watch Lawrence of Arabia on your phone instead of it's glorious restoration on a large screen?

If you run your PS4 through your receiver for surround sound, will you still be able to watch the movie in your VR headset, or will it create sync issues requiring headphones?

I have a decent selection of 3D movies at home. When deciding on what to watch, I prioritize movies which I haven't already seen in 3D before but my favorite titles are ones I would like to watch again and again. I hope manufacturers bring it back in the event I have to replace my current tv or if it dies. 4K is nice but the same movie in really good 3D can blow me away even if it's a mediocre movie.

I think most people shunned 3D in the beginning because of pricing. 3D titles were never available for rental and the streaming selection has been subpar. The active glasses also drain the battery very quickly. I get that there are a minority of people who don't like wearing glasses, but I think it's more the former. Add to that the additional cost of the accessories and the number of cheap conversions flooding the market and it's easy to see why people were so slow to embrace it.

Absabloodylutely!

Us Englanders love our quality and sorry to 13th but I would rather boil my head than watch a film on a smartphone.

Having a 4K tv and not using for films just doesn’t compute for me. I sort of feel the 13th man doesn’t really have a leg to stand on if he ever wants to criticise people who hate 3D when he practices the (imo) filthy art of films on a smartphone. It’s far worse than hating 3D and that’s coming from a big fan of 3D!

"The 3D is fantastic a big improvement on previous model and yes I do watch 3D movies, why it seems to be dead in the water according to some, is a mystery to me. When it's good it is very very good as the saying goes. Personally I defy anybody to watch a good 3D movie and not be impressed, perhaps people bored of the process to soon, and didn't give it the chance it deserved. TV manufacturers should carry on putting the process in and the public can embrace it further down the line if they choose to. "

'No chance buddy, instead why not ignore your £1500 TV and ask it to hoover your kitchen instead?'comment LG execs

I don’t need any convincing. I own around 50 3D films. Thankfully they also include the flat version but I’m still nervous that future projectors might not have the feature. Worse case scenario , I just watch them through my VR headset.

I can criticise anyone I choose to criticise without having to parade myself as any kind of good example, everything ultimately has to be judged on its own merits and balanced against the circumstances.

Watching a film on a plane is not much different to watching it on a phone but when you're stuck in transit, can't sleep and have hours to kill, sometimes you do it as the best option. I remember watching John Woo's epic The Crossing on a small screen heavily windowboxed due to some messed up aspect ratio nonsense but despite that I got into it and kept watching. Only after a couple of hours at the end did I find out that it was only part 1 and originally shown in 3D, but if I can't see it in 3D then I'm not interested in rewatching it at all, let alone in 4K. Do I wish I'd have seen it on a bigger screen? Yes. But I have a lot of films to watch and if I have to fit them in quick and dirty so be it, life is short.

As soon as I see what are blatantly supposed to be 3D effects in 2D it ruins the film for me. Ip Man 3 is a good example of that. But I agree, just knowing a film was released in 3D annoys me if I watch it in 2D because I spend the whole time imagining how much better it would look in 3D, a constant reminder of how much of an inferior experience I'm getting. As for Lawrence Of Arabia, I picked that up on Blu-ray recently and will be watching it on my largest screen...

They have a dolby atmos 4k demo on at work, on a proper rear surround system, sounds stunning, but the picture is lifelessly flat, enrages me that people cant see it.

Yes but with due respect, you were indicating you would just bypass 4K films on a big screen and watch them on the phone. That’s what I couldn’t get my head around. Of course you are entitled to criticise but I couldn’t take you seriously if you did because like I said, dismissing 4K in such a (imo) bizarre manner is every bit as puzzling as people who hate or dislike 3D presentations.
Also, if you have time to watch 3D, you have time to watch 4K.

That’s all I was saying.

To answer the thread title; I love it. Especially on a 4K OLED TV, sadly the one I have was the last model to feature 3D, even though it looks better than it ever did on an HD set.

I finally picked up Gravity 3D, haven't watched it all yet, but plan to do so in complete darkness - which should look amazing with the perfect black of OLED

Gutted that MI:Fallout isn't getting a 3D release, despite the studio making a big deal about it being the first in the franchise to be in 3D!

I do bypass 4K films, but not specifically to watch them on my phone. Sure, some of them are super-sharp and colourful but I am simply happy enough with 2K and 3D. Maybe I'd think different if I had an 85 inch TV or used a projector, but at 60 and 55 inches, 2K is more than good enough.

If I was buying new 2D films then yes, maybe I'd go for 4K but I don't actually buy ANY new release movies if they aren't 3D - the only 4K discs that I have bought have been used or part of a 3D combo pack. I did have Everest and the last XXX movie on 4K but I sold those on ebay because when I watch those films again it will be in 3D, I am just not interested in ever watching them again flat.

The only non-3D 4K movie I own is Jack Reacher Never Go Back because I found it in a charity shop. When I watch that again it will be the 4K version I watch so I certainly don't have a problem with people watching films in 4K, but when I'm told it's better than 3D it's like someone telling me I've got 13 fingers. My eyes don't lie - they tell me 3D beats 4K every time.

3D plays a role only for action films. For ordinary melodramas that are not known for their entertainment, a 3D show is simply a waste of money

Yes because I love living in a flat world all the time except when I'm doing something action oriented like skiing.
