I just watched the trailer for the umpteenth time, and I'm still excited for this movie. Waiting another year to see the second half will suck, but I'm hoping if Extended Editions are done, WB and Jackson will release the first one before "There and Back Again" is released.

I think I have watched the trailer umpteen times as well.
The part that really gets me excited is when it cuts to the map of Middle Earth for the first time. It just gets me amped up for it. I would like to hold off buying the BD of the first release and just buy the double release that will eventually come out, but that will be really hard.

Trailer 2 for The Hobbit finished and coming soon!

June 14th, 2012 by Demosthenes

We’d heard the next Hobbit trailer was coming soon. Now CaptainSalt has let us know that the Alberta Film Ratings website, which lists trailers before they appear in US theaters has classified the trailer #2 with a G rating.

The run time is listed at 2 minutes, 24 seconds, eight seconds shorter than the first trailer. Trailers are listed on the site preceding their official release, so this means the trailer has been finalised and will be debuting soon! (Anyone taking bets for San Diego Comic-con?)

As stated many times previously none of the trailers released thus far are in that framerate speed. They're all 24p but the screening at comic-con or wherever they had it was 48p and drew criticism for being so realistic in motion it lost the aesthetic look we all associate with Hollywood movies and looked more like a soap operas usually filmed in higher framerates.

But i said before the crash i'd like to reserve judgement till i get a full hands on with the tech before giving final verdict despite my assumptions being it will be the same as the above.

I see. Well I guess I will just have to wait for the release.

I would like to see the movie address background issues like that, but I'm not sure they would have time to time to explore that aspect of the story, even with two movies. Essentially, that would involve showing that the Lake-men were descended from the same group of men as the Edain, but became Middle-Men (as Faramir relates in The Two Towers), because they never crossed the mountains into Beleriand and therefore did not become Numenoreans. Also, the subject matter edges into the "dangerous territory" of The Silmarillion, which I understand is unauthorized to portray due to copyright issues. This is unfortunate, because I would have like to have seen more background on dragons, in particular Smaug's greatest ancestor Ancalagon the Black, who figured prominently in The Great Battle that ended the First Age.

I'd love to see some background history in The Hobbit, but like you said it's doubtful they can go to far without infringing on The Silmarillion. Grand Bob, do you think there's any chance we will see a filmed Silmarillion, preferably in three parts?

Copyright issues notwithstanding, money is a powerful persuader, and I could imagine the Tolkien estate eventually giving ground on this matter after the death of Christopher. Silmarillion is so densely packed with subject matter, that at least three and perhaps more movies could be derived from it. Some of the sections would be practically unfilmable (e.g. Ainulindale), but I believe the immensity of the action would be a draw to huge crowds, despite the fact that the entire story is primarily concerned with Elves instead of Men.

I agree that the Silmarillion would bring in the crowds. Seeing the seen with Beren and the warg and Turin and Glaurung would be spectacular.

Having just experienced the AMAZING audio of Brave in Dolby Atmos (I went to one of the 14 cinemas in North America showing it) I am wicked excited to see Peter is considering mixing both Hobbit movies in Dolby Atmos.

The ray of hope I see provided by The Hobbit movie is the link to the Silmarillion provided by Gandalf's sword Glamdring, which (as indicated in the book) was once worn by the Elven-king of Gondolin (Turgon). I wonder if that will provide enough freedom to get at least a (several minute?) glimpse of the otherwise forbidden First Age? It would hard to imagine a more exciting cinematic experience than the Battle of Gondolin, between the High Elves and the gamut of evil creatures, including Morgoth (Satan) himself. But since the link provided in The Fellowship of the Ring book to the tale of Beren and Luthien, the most important love-story in Middle-earth, did not provide an aside to that story in the FotR movie, I am not optimistic.

Sauron the Deceiver and the Destruction of Numenor -- that could be a movie all to itself.
