I'd be surprised if there weren't EEs as well. If for no other reason than the studio will press for them to sell more Blurays/DVDs.

I wouldn't expect the additions to be as substantial as the LOTR EEs though since these are already long and they have less material to work with. But I'll still hold out for EEs--or confirmation that there won't be any--before buying any Blus. Would wait until all are out to get the invitable boxed set anyway.

Correct.

Don't forget that the movie still has to be edited so the flow does not get bogged down. There will ALWAYS be edit cuts that can be added back in later. The LotR movies showed that. Such as Sam and Frodo watching the elves walking through the forest. It's the in the EEs where you do not have to worry about the narrative slowing down, because you are watching it at home at your leasure.

For what it's worth DVD screeners of The Hobbit have already leaked to the public...

Quote:
Code:
Format : AVI at 1.300 Kb/s
Length : 700 MB
Video #0 : MPEG-4 Visual at 1.157 Kb/s
Aspect : 624 x 352 (1.773) at 25.000 fps
Audio #0 : MPEG Audio at 128 Kb/s
Infos : 2 kanay, 48,0 KHz

I haven't downloaded it myself, and the images are from one of the many release companies posting links to the film. I merely mention it as being news worthy and posted up the provided info. I am not condoning d/l the film early, nor have I shared (nor will I) any links to said film.

A lot depends on what liberties Jackson takes to incorporate additional material into the film. For example, although Christopher Tolkien has put restrictions on filming The Silmarillion, there are a few passages in The Hobbit (e.g. 'Gondolin', etc.) that open vistas to the First Age, where thousands of years of spectacular events occur. The Appendices to LotR also offer many hours of filmable topics concerning the Second and Third Ages. And, of course, there is the non-story-related material that Jackson and Boyens will almost certainly include, which (given its appearance in the LotR movies) we can only hope will be minimal.

And you think that advertising it on a high traffic website such as this is going to help prevent the illegal activity you expressly don't condone? You seem to have a lack of logic in your thinking.

It certainly isn't going to help reduce the piracy, that's for sure . I've never understood the need that some people have to see pirated copies of films months before their official releases...Shame.

I was curious to see if it was true about a leaked copy and as far as i can tell no screener has leaked.

If it had im sure there would be tons of spoilers/ images floating about.

+1

I'm with you, Dmaul. The EE's are "definitive" for me, and it might surprise folks around here, but Viggo Mortensen feels the same way. He called the EEs the "real" cuts of the films, and I agree.

Weaving: we haven’t filmed the final battle yet

October 16th, 2012 by Demosthenes

Hugo Weaving speaks to Collider about the convoluted, constantly changing beast that is the film versions of The Hobbit.

"I found out The Hobbit was going to be a trilogy quite recently, when everyone else found out about it. Originally, when I said goodbye to Pete [Jackson] in L.A., I said, “I’ll see you on The Hobbit,” and he said, “Well, I’m not doing The Hobbit.” And then, it was, “We are doing The Hobbit, but I’m not going to direct it.” And then, it was, “Well, I am directing it now.” And then, it was, “Actually, we’re doing The Hobbit in two films.” So, when I went to shoot it out there, there were two scripts and two films."

"Now, I’ve just found out, not that long ago, when it was announced. He said, “Well, we’ve got all this fabulous material and these wonderful people.” They hadn’t filmed the final battle sequence yet, which would have been at the end of 2. For a number of reasons, they decided that there are three films in there. I hope there are. I don’t know. I was truly there for four or five weeks and enjoyed myself, and went home again. My knowledge of the workings of Middle Earth, at the moment, are very minimal."

Didn't this site have a news item on the main page saying the announcement of Hobbit EEs was incorrect?

Some new pics.

And one things fer sure, These 3 films will be way more colorful than the Rings films. And that was one major gripe that I had with them. A whole lot of muted colors. Likely due to the blending of FX and live action.

You guys knew that ASYLUM was going to get in the action on this.

Maybe if we are lucky we will catch this on the Syfy channel long before we see Jackson's version in the theaters.

Well there has been some speculation that color grading hasn't been completed yet on all of the screenshots; so it may not be as colorful as the last batch of screenshots is suggesting.

I really hope that top shot isn't finished. That looks like a set if ive ever seen one. Needs some grading or something. The rock wall in the back and the tree look fake as hell. Gotta love that 48 fps exposing sets and costuming.

Expect them to be soon get an estate-copyrights hit by a very large and not-so-American Battleship.

.
Jackson said in one of the video blogs that they're oversaturating the faces of the dwarves and a lot of the set dressing so that the RED EPIC will pick up the colors and skin tones properly, and that they won't look at all like they do in life in the final grade. There were some jokes about how psychedelic Mirkwood looks on set, and that it won't look that way in the finished film at all. So it makes sense that all these stills, taken by set photographers, probably won't match the look of the finished film.

If LOTR is any indication, the digital grading is going to be hugely important in creating the look for this film, so I'd ignore all the publicity photos as a cue to the film's look.
