I can't wait to see this, but I avoid 3D at all costs and will definitely avoid the added gimmick of high frame rate. I'm hoping I can find a theater with a large enough screen showing it in 2D to make it worth it, otherwise I may be waiting for Bluray this time.

So now that 3D is just an eight year old normal part of movies now, is HFR the new format to throw the word 'gimmick' at?

Yeah,it's the new gimmick.... just like sound and colour once were gimmicks, too. They'll get used to it.

LOL, exactly what I was thinking when somebody called 48fpfs a gimmick. "movies" instead of pictures were gimmicks as well, then color film was a gimmick, then sound, then stereo, then surround.

I'm all for innovation, that's why I'm so excited to see this in 48 fps. If people didn't try new technologies we wouldn't have a lot of the great forms of entertainment we have today. Sure not everyone is going to work, but when people ask why 48 fps, the better question is why not?

funny how high frame rates predate most of these things. NTSC has been 60i since what, the 40s? Never saw anyone get excited about it until the hype machine started rumbling.

I think with HFR I will reserve my final judgement for the format until I've seen what a decent number of really talented filmmakers do with it. If lots of filmmakers can't use it 100% well then it will be worth trashing. The critics who are looking at HFR negative in this movie all say there are parts where HFR works really well but there are parts that look weird.

Come next Friday, I'm all over this film like a hobo on a ham sandwich . Jackson has yet to disappoint me. I love all his films...excesses and all, so I'm sure to be highly entertained. I plan on seeing it first thing Friday morning in HFR 3D and it's likely I'll watch it at least one more time before the weekend's through. Roll on December 14th!

I hope they get Riddles In The Dark right. It's my most anticipated scene!

From all the reviews I have read so far, whether positive or negative, the one thing the critics all seem to agree on is that the Riddles In The Dark sequence is handled masterfully

Really? That's good to hear cause it was one of the worst moments on the trailer for me.

So I'm assuming a 2D screening in 48fps is going to be rare, if at all.

Don't think they're doing any of those at all.

The newer 3D digital projectors are much easier to update to the HFR. That is another reason you are not seeing any 2D theaters updated yet. After the 3D ones are taken care of then they can start on the 2D projectors. But that is still a long way off.
