I trust PJ to film it in a way that looks great in the theaters and at home.

Besides, I'm not much of an A/V guy and tend not to notice things people ***** about in transfers anyway.

Yeah, yeah, I know, "why are you on a blu ray forum if you're not an A/V guy?". I like HD, I'm just not anal about it and don't obsess over picture quality. Sound I really don't care about and just have a cheap 10+ year old 5.1 home theater in a box set up that I don't plan on upgrading any time soon.

Even on bad (or just not top-dollar) equipment, blu will still look and sound better. Don't have to spend thousands to enjoy the quality boost!

A great behind the scenes look. However, we now have to wait way too long to see the finished movie .

If you have Real Player you can save the video and play it back later, it's an MPEG-4 file to start with. It will run on Quicktime as well as your PS3.

It was great to see the sets once again. I can't wait for the new movies!

That was a nice surprise for me to see him. I was not expecting that. Though, he has a ways to go if he wants to grow that beard out enough.

but since those real soap opera effect are filmed with higher fps and that is what it is....

will the hobbit look like ****ing santa barbara?

im kinda worried there.

no judder = no cinema feeling for me. i dont know for others but i think it will look :made for tv.

at least there will be no artificial fps as it will be SHOT in 48 fps. will it be smoother but look the same speed of a 24 fps movie:?
I saw on another site (sorry, I don't remember where it was) some examples of the same test scene shot at both 24 and 60fps. IIRC, it was of a kid swinging a bat or a kid on a swing. And at 60fps, the motion did look much smoother and better. But it did also look like a soap opera. So what I think now is that action at 24fps does introduce artifacts, but we've become so used to those artifacts, it's what we think of as "film". And I'm not sure that a film like "The Hobbit", which is presumably about an ancient time, should look so "crisp and clean". But I do trust Peter Jackson and I'm sure he'll find a way to put warmth back into the image, even if it's done artificially.

Meanwhile, the sets look phenomenal in the video blog and I'm glad to see that they're relying heavily on physical (practical) sets. It makes a big difference when actors can interact with a real physical environment. I think that was one of the mistakes that Lucas made in the PT. He tried to make almost everything CGI.

Enjoyed the production diary. Glad he's doing them!

Regarding the FPS, I'm just not concerned. I watch movies for the plot and acting etc., I've never been particular about the "look" of a film or anything like that.

Wow, that production diary was great. Makes me so excited and a little teary eyed known The Hobbit is finally happening.

That production diary has me almost looking forward to the Appendices of The Hobbit more than the film itself.
