Agreed, rather than him leaving just becasue he doesn't want to be in a film.

Geez people, maybe a family member is near death or he found out he is having serious health problems. I wish him well with whatever negative issues have come up for him.

However, director Peter Jackson confirmed on Facebook that Kazinsky has left the J.R.R. Tolkien adaption due to "personal reasons". His role will be recast.

"I am sad to report that Rob Kazinsky, who was cast in the role of Fili, is having to leave The Hobbit and return home, for personal reasons," Jackson said. "Rob has been terrific to work with and his enthusiasm and infectious sense of humour will be missed by all of us.

"I should say that Rob's departure will not affect ongoing filming of The Hobbit, nor will it impact work done to date, as we had yet to film much of Fili's storyline.

"At the moment we are shooting scenes featuring Bilbo without the Dwarves, which will give us time to find a new Fili. I'll keep everyone posted with updates as they come."

Jackson recently confirmed that Sir Ian Holm would be returning as Bilbo Baggins.

Guys, he's not quit because he's being a d**k, he's left for something serious, you don't know, I would like to think it's something serious since being in the film would of done great things for him.

I think it's good for an actor to put family in front of his career

+1

It's amazing how quick some are to jump to conclusions even though it just said he left for "personal reasons"

hmmmm...

I wish him the best and hope everything works out okay.

Maybe it was mercury poisoning

Seriously though, I can't imagine being away from my family for 18 months. These guys are really sacrificing their lives in order to be in this film. I'm just glad he left early in the process and not after they had already filmed a bunch of scenes with him. The last thing we need is an actor switch mid-way through the production.

Hugo Weaving was spotted in Wellington. PJ mentioned filming Rivendell scenes over Easter. Coincidence?

From TORn facebook page

Peter Jackson

The news about us filming The Hobbit at 48 frames per second generated a lot of comments. Of course, it's impossible to show you what 48 fps actually looks like outside of a movie cinema, but there were several interesting and insightful questions raised.

We will be completing a "normal" 24 frames per second version—in both digital and 35mm film prints. If we are able to get the Hobbit projected at 48 fps in selected cinemas, there will still be normal-looking 24 fps versions available in cinemas everywhere.

Converting a film shot at 48 fps down to 24 fps is not a hugely difficult process, but it requires testing to achieve the best results. Some of this involves digital processes during post-production. We are also shooting the film a slightly different way, which is a question several of you asked. Normally you shoot a movie with a 180-degree shutter angle. Changing the shutter angle affects the amount of motion blur captured during movement. Reducing the shutter angle gives you the stroby (or jerky) "Saving Private Ryan" look.

However, we're going the other way, shooting at 48 fps with a 270 degree shutter angle. This gives the 48 fps a lovely silky look, and creates a very pleasing look at 24 fps as well. In fact, our DP, Andrew Lesnie, and I prefer the look of 24 fps when it comes from a 48 fps master.

More soon ....

Cheers,

Peter J

Actually my very first thought was that he ended up not liking the tedious makeup process that the Dwarves will have to go through.

They had a similar problem on epic sci-fi tv series Babylon 5 with one of the actresses hating the tedious make-up time and the feel of the Narn full-head prosthetics. Don't these actors know what the role will entail? Fat suit and very heavy make-up!

They should have hired the amazing Mr Brian Blessed for Thorin. Zero make-up or fat suit required!

Kazinsky stuck out in casting as someone with very little experience. TORN still has his bio up, and it mentions very minimal acting experience (soaps and comercials) and even a statement that he would never work in Hollywood. The red flag, however, was that he is also a model. Make-up is one thing, but prosthetics are exhausting things to wear (both in preparation and in action).

PJ might have seen something in him, but I was always a bit hestitant about him. That's not to say good-ridence, only to say its not totally unexpected.

I seem to remember some comments like that about Elijah Wood.

I just saw that on my FB. 'Awesome' isn't nearly adequate, but it is the first word that comes to mind.
