Only 377 days to go until 'An Unexpected Journey', and only 741 days until 'There and Back Again'.

Hammond and Scull are probably the most knowledgeable Tolkien scholars alive, aside from his son Christopher. The "Companion" is pure gold for any serious reader of the book. I hope they enjoy the Hobbit movies, as their reaction is a good indicator of Tolkien fans in general. They had a negative opinion of the LoTR movies, due to the major deviations from the book.

Not sure if I'm gonna start this all over again, but find it fairly reassurng that others besides me found the LotR movies flawed.Hopefully someone on here will post their assesment of the movie(s) when the time comes.

I'm embarassed to say I've never read the books, only the hobbit when I was real young. But I really enjoyed the movies and to put a such a massive trilogy to film with only 3 movies is a pretty huge task. I thought they were really enjoyable to watch and it still felt really epic. Also the CG wasn't overdone and I loved some of the old school techniques used.

No need to apologize for not having read the books.Think maybe that makes one better apreciate the movies But I would recommend reading them.

If you missed it, there's a big thread discussing the LOTR movies vs. the books.

Nah, was just pointing out the thread as I couldn't remember if you were posting in here before or not.

I long since gave up any hope of this thread staying solely about the Hobbit movies, and really don't visit the bluray.com forums much any more period. Just use the site to track my collection, don't care much for the forums here.

RUMOR: Will We See MAN OF STEEL Next Year After All?

Quote:
"Word is that WarnerBros might be playing a bit or release date chess with two of their biggest movies yet. According to TMT PeterJackson's Hobbit movies are not going quite to schedule and he may struggle to meet the December 14th release date for the first of the two prequels; "An Unexpected Journey". Apparently he is open to delaying the release until the following year which would allow Zack Snyder's Superman reboot to swoop in and reclaim it's original Christmas 2012 spot. "

From TMT..
"
"

One scenario we're hearing involves the studio moving The Man of Steel, the Christopher Nolan-“Godfathered” Superman revival with Zack Snyder wearing the director cap into that Christmas ’12 slot. We've been told that production is flying as fast as the Big Blue himself with shooting to wrap early February, and scenes already being edited and sent out to various post-production houses as I type this.

Zack Snyders last film was ****ing awful and they want to give him the christmas spot over LOTR?! That's gonna bites them in the ass. The only way I'll be ok with this is Hobbit one gets pushed back to summer and hobbit two remains where its at Christmas 2013. If tthey push both films back tho I'm gonna rain hell fire on them.

Snyder is a great stylist directer who is great when someone else is writting the story. In the case of the next Superman Nolan is producing and helping to write it. That should be a project that combines Nolans fantastic wit with Synder's fantastic style. Thats a winning combination

Im sure any delay in The Hobbit will be made so Peter Jackson can make the best movie he can which is preferable to rushing an incomplete movie to the market.

Yea, I have always wondered how many corners got cut and SFX were not finished properly due to the 3 LotR films coming out sequentially every Dec.

So a little delay will not bother me so as they can spend more time finishing up this SFX driven film.

No truth at all to ‘Hobbit’ delay rumors

December 7th, 2011 by MrCere 0 Comments and 0 Reactions

WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND — In what may be a first, I am sitting in the Weta Cave next to TORn co-founder Erica / Tehanu, and we can confirm absolutely that the rumor of a delay of the first Hobbit film until 2013 is complete, uh, shall we say, balderdash. It is interesting to imagine where the rumor came from but the source here is beyond question. While I hate to drive traffic to the source, here it is just in case. But, be aware, this is completely untrue.

The problem is we should have been talking about seeing it in a few days from now. It's already been delayed so more delays are going to be intolerable.

My feelings on this matter are sitting between outright seething and hopefull relief. The Hobbit Part One being delayed is, as you said, simply not acceptable with the amount and resources that Jackson has had. He is shooting 2 theatrical fature films for more than 5 months each with multiple units! How much footage does the man need to cover already!

I doubt they would release a trailer this year if they weren't set on getting the movie out next year. IIRC, they did all the editing and special effects work on each of the LOTR movies one at a time, so once they finish shooting, they'll edit An Unexpected Journey, release it, and then edit There and Back Again.

I would have thought that Weta Digital would have started work on the visual effects with Animatics and placeholder renders from Day One of the shoot. Anyone got an idea of when Part One of The Hobbit is considered to be wrapped, or are they shooting both films narratives like one long 5 hour film?

Btw, Warner has stepped in and spoken about the matter:

Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures has also given a definitive statement on the matter as well:
“Contrary to inaccurate reports – The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is being released on December 14, 2012.

Other than the fact that Jackson is helming this thing and (thankfully) has a ton of money to work with, it almost seems like this production is cursed.
