Completely correct. That article is rubbish and full of reporter arrogance - look at the line "That's why MGM needs "The Hobbit" to do as well as possible, and why fans are being asked to buy tickets for three movies instead of two or one." The first part is true - MGM does need The Hobbit to do well. The second part is not but the reporter has decided on an angle and is presenting it as solid fact.

Lazy, sensationalist reporting with personal theories presented as the truth..

can someone point me in the direction, or give examples of what was different in the LOTR movies vs. the books??

i see that argument come up a lot on why people didn't like the movies and why they are nervous about the same people making the hobbit movies.

aside from Arwyen being in the movies more than the books.

Add it to the list of other numerous things you're not happy with.

Agreed. Thorin was the one that looked the least dwarvish in the first pictures (that first picture made him look like an angry Klingon) but I've grown to really like his look. Can't wait to see him on-screen properly.

There is a site somewhere that documents the changes, by each of the three books. If I find it, I will post it here. The list is pretty large.

I'm confident in Jacksons ability to craft a movie that's epic but i actually am worrying a little bit in regards to the look of the world thus far if honest. Maybe the actual movie when i watch it might assuage my fears

That is exactly what I thought of as soon as I saw the picture

From comingsoon.net:

Quote:
In related news, The Hollywood Reporter says that Warner Bros. Pictures has received assurances from exhibitors that they are not planning on asking moviegoers to pay an additional surcharge to see the films in 48 frames per second. While theaters charge more for 3D movies, they are not going to do the same for screenings in the higher rate than the usual 24 frames per second.

When the first film opens on December 14, most theaters will play the movie at 24 fps. A 3D 48 fps version of the movie will be made available in all major markets, but only select theaters are expected to offer the option. IMAX will also have a number of theaters playing a 48 fps 3D version of the film.
Brilliant news! Gives people a lot more incentive to check it out (as asking for yet another surcharge, on top of 3D (and, in some cases, on top of IMAX and 3D - would mean that most customers would reject it outright)

The last line also gives me hope that the BFI IMAX will have it in 48fps. I'm counting on it as my third viewing (on the Sunday) will be with them. I think if any cinema in the country will upgrade their equipment to show it in 48fps it will be them.

If that's the case, I'll be going back to Manchester to check this bad boy out. I might as well go all out to see it in 48 fps

Peter Jackson tells us how much of Guillermo Del Toro’s design DNA is in The Hobbit

Quote:
[Guillermo] had designed a lot of the movie . . . I looked at his designs when he took over and a lot of his designs are very Guillermo . . . it was very much stuff that you would recognize from Pan's Labyrinth or Hellboy. It was his artistic vision and I couldn't make that movie. I looked at his designs and I said the only person who can make a Guillermo Del Toro movie is Guillermo. It shouldn't be me. I can't put my head into somebody else's idea — I have to generate it from the beginning. So really I redesigned the film pretty much. Some of Guillermo's DNA is in there — there were some things he did that I thought were pretty cool and I've taken bits of pieces of his stuff — kind of altering it and changing it as I saw it. But the film was largely redesigned.

I was really looking forward to some of what Del Toro might have done, especially with Smaug. He really touted his design of it as being a unique take on dragons that hasn't been done before. At the same time, I think I would like design continuity. While I think Guillermo's work is stunning, this series would look like a different world than Jackson's.
