I highly doubt it. If memory serves correctly, they didn't have Fellowship Of The Ring locked until a week or so before it premiered, of course this drove Howard Shore crazy.... I am thinking they have it better planned out now. So my guess is, we won't know an actual run time, till November.

I found myself liking John Howe's works better than Lee's.

Then again, I love most of Howe's works.

Picked up the HarperCollins paperback release of HoME just based on the covers...

Some closer shots...
[Show spoiler]

I'm really looking forward to seeing Smaug to see who Howe's influence in the art direction with The Hobbit plays out...
- Smaug the Golden
- Weta's Faux Bronze sculpture (or the real bronze one only $4,900)
- Misc. Other renditions...The Cup of Morning Shadows, Smaug Vignette, From the 3D Hobbit Pop-Up Book, From There and Back Again: The Map of the Hobbit poster

Howe has grown on me a lot but, I'm partial to Lee's artwork.

Anyway here is the 2013 Tolkien Calendar

UHG! Not Alan Lee again!

I hate most of his Tolkien work. Wish that they would have used Nasmith instead.

I received one of his Tolkien calenders way back in the late 80's and had to either skip some months or hold them back because of my dislike for his style in some pics. I wish that he would go do some other genre instead.

Thanks for posting that though.

I guess likes and dislikes make us all unique?!?

But, I do have The Maps of Tolkien's Middle-Earth by Brian Sibley & John Howe. Absolutely beautiful artwork!

Yea, I guess so.

However, this painting of Glaurung by him is one of my favorite Tolkien related.

Now every time that I watch 'Fellowship of the Ring' and when Bilbo is yearning to travel again and says-

"I want to see mountains again, mountains, Gandalf! And then find somewhere quiet where I can finish my book."

I will now immediately think of these following scenes, and a get a tear in my eye. (sniff)

I agree, I'm really liking the (quick) look of Mirkwood and Dol Guldor in the distance.

I kinda forgot that I had it in my collection, and went and dug it out. I forgot how sweet of a book/map set this is! If you like maps then you should definitely look into it!

EDIT: Check out The Atlas of Middle-Earth too! Another great resource!

Go to trailers.apple.com and select 1080. It will open QuickTime and when it loads fully select file and select 'save as'

With regards to the Goblin King, Ian McKellen posted this on his blog last November:

Musings during a long wait today, which has been a respite from a lot of fighting in Middle-earth. In The Hobbit, Gandalf is part old duffer but more he's a soldier. Peter Jackson, who likes to see the old guys fighting it out, reminded me the other day that Gandalf is a commander, a general. Having slain the Great Goblin I was being a bit too indulgent with the dwarves who meanwhile had mislaid Bilbo in the goblin tunnels. I've played enough soldiers to see that PJ was right and in the next take I was very stern.
