I think the whole group of them look great (though my favorite is easily the one directly below Thorin...is that Bombur?) Simply cannot wait to see these films!

I hope they don't use this as the theater promo poster. That'll send people running away from the theater.

For those who didn't pay attention in the teaser--Going from the top:
Gloin, Kili, Bofur, Bifur
Oin, Ori, Dori
Fili, Thorin, Dwalin
Balin, Bombur, Nori

I was thinking more Labyrinth than Muppets, m'self , but don't worry, this is just the 1 Of 6 lobby-banner posters, where the studios try to placate actors' agents for a major tentpole by hyping each major character in separate posters, so the actors don't quibble over billing, and the studios figure out which character to sell to the audience ahead of time.

There's also one of McKellen outstanding in his field, and Freeman striking an Elijah Wood-like pose with his sword, but me, I just say kick out the greedy agents and go with:

That is also the cover art for the movie tie-in novel. Of all the posters, it seems to best represent the story subject matter.

That song in the (first) trailer, Over the Misty Mountains, is awesome. Wonder if I can grow my beard in time for the release?

I disagree, but even if they did use this one, I'm sure they will using other posters as well...

Gloin (upper left corner), of course, will turn out to be the father of Gimli in FOTR, and you can see the resemblance.

I love The Hobbit, but I have tried to avoid this thread as much as possible. I accidentally saw the Muppets money shot earlier today.

Thanks guys!

Kili, or Ori?
(Kili's the rocker-dude in the top row.)

And if Ori, I tend to think more early Peter Tork, m'self, but...

The Gandalf one is the official teaser poster, rather than a character poster. Sadly the first 'poster' of Bolbo in his doorway was - to the best of my knowledge - never used as an actual poster in the real world, it was released online only. Which is a shame as it's wonderful.

The recent Bilbo one and this dwarf one are more likely to be alternative character-focused posters, similar to how ROTK had a range of character teaser posters - Aragron's was the official teaser poster, the rest were alternatives that rarely got used in cinemas. It's not really about agents (none of the dwarf actors are big enough to make demands about their billing or poster status), it's just about promoting the different characters, especially in a story as big as this - Warners are huge fans of character posters - look at the Dark Knight films and Harry Potter. I imagine we'll see more posters - Galadriel, Elrond and Gandalf perhaps, maybe the Goblins, perhaps even Saruman, Gandalf and Radagast together.

The actual theatrical poster will be a group shot similar to those of Fellowship, Towers and King.
